Active mission vanished from mission log | cannot start missions

Aug 14, 2010 bobt link
I have recently started the mission "A Shipment Of Heliocene". I then had to move to a different computer, so I logged off and relogged. Now, the mission vanished from mission log: the mission log shows "no active mission" and a completed mission on the left, and the corresponding logs on the right.

Which wouldn't be too bad, if the mission /board/ would not still consider "A Shipment Of Heliocene" active (showing only this mission with an abort button) , so I cannot start new missions. I also do not want to simply hit abort, as I was warned about severe penalty for doing so when starting the mission.

Help! =)

Hi Bob.

The active mission log information is stored locally on your computer. So, it was stored on the computer where you first took the mission. Missions don't usually repeat your goals when you log off and back on so if you log on using a different computer, the info is lost.
Since the mission is still considered active in the Mission Board and if you remember the goals, then you can continue and it should populate the mission log with new information.
If you have access to the old computer, you can grab the mission log file from it and put it on your current computer. Do that before trying to continue the mission.
If you cannot do that and you don't recall the goals of the mission, I can investigate further to tell you the goals.

I forgot to say what the name of the mission file is. It would most likely be something like "Bob N. Threadbaremissions.txt" but with the spaces, it may be something else.

Thank you!

Ok I shipped all the cargo now. While it was entirely accepted by the target station, I did not receive any new mission log entries meanwhile and I am still unable to complete the mission. I'll try to log with the original computer tomorrow and see whether I can complete it there.

After switching to the original computer, I did another run (without cargo) and still cannot complete the mission :((

(On the original computer, the mission log looks still the same as when I left for the courier mission and seems frozen in this state. On neither of the two machines I did receive any new log entries)

Beginning of missions.txt:

{{name="A Shipment of Heliocene",id=133,text={{"You will be required to safely transport a shipment of 100 crates of heliocene ore from Helios III station to Sedina V Hold. Payment is 10,000 credits upon successful delivery."},{"Greetings from Oden Hasto. The shipment of Heliocene ore is waiting at Helios B-14, Helios III Orbital. Deliver it safely here through any means available to you. Multiple trips may be necessary, and abandoning the mission will not be forgiven."}},objectives={[0]="objectives"},desc="Reliable transport needed to retrieve ore shipment from Helios"}},

[Originial Post: Problem miraculously vanished while I was chatting.]
Edit: see below.

Strange, but thanks for the update.

CORRECTION: The mission was aborted because I joined and then disbanded a group. Guess that means the tree is lost.

[IMHO that mission system is a nightmare, one client crash and you have to startover your character. Call me if you want someone to revise it ;=)]

Maybe a warning before logging off or grouping/degrouping with active missions would be nice?

It's up to the mission as to how it handles the player logging off. Some missions abort, others don't.
As for grouping, yeah, all missions are aborted when you join/leave a group.

I'm interested in this as it's one of my missions, the reason I made it a one-time deal is that it gives you 100cu of Heliocene ore at the beginning, making aborting and retaking the mission a potential exploit. If you have any suggestions on how to make it better I am always ready to listen.

You could break it up into two missions, A & B, where A is only available to take one time and is the mission that gives you the 100cu helio. B would only be available if A got aborted and is really the same thing except you don't get the 100 helio at the beginning. If you complete A successfully the first time, B would never be made available.

So in the case where you accidentally abort the mission or leave the group you could still take mission B, assuming you remember where you left the helio. If not, well, I guess you can go mining.

At least that way you don't fail an entire mission tree from one silly mistake or dropped connection.
