VENDETTA.RLB file is linked to missing export SHELL32.DLL:SHGetFolderPathA

After a long time off, today I found a web link to Vendetta, and so I decided to download the game and see how it differes from a few years back. [I discovered Vendetta soon after E&B shut down, and I took advantage of the offer that was made to the E&B players]

So I registered, downloaded and installed it. I run the Vendetta icon, it went through the updates and verification, then on clicking Play, it immediately pops up an error message, with the only option to click [OK]. The message in the popup window is:

Windows Title: Error Starting Program

Message: The VENDETTA.RLB file is linked to missing
export SHELL32.DLL:SHGetFolderPathA.

I am running on an old system running Win98, 512MB Ram, Pentium III 800MHz (I know the requirements asks for a 1GHz).

Any idea why what this message means?

Thank you
Leo

Your first step might be to install this on a computer and operating system that were built this millennium.

I think it means that the game is using some feature that's not normally available in win 98.

Installing this could help.

It came up in some of the google results for SHGetFolderPathA

Thanks Mr. Spuck.

Don't mind the peanut gallery, iltoscano. Everyone has different opportunities, and we're proud of how well the game continues to run on older hardware. That said, mostly depending on your video card, you may find that hardware really is just too old.

Thank you. I know this was a long shot. I realize that the system is a "bit" old, but at the moment that is all i can afford (ie. it is what I have left ...).

I will try the links suggested (I did do a search in google on the SHELL32.DLL:SHGetFolderPathA, but i'll check again.

Cheers

If spuck's solution doesn't work, you could always install Linux on it, or something :).
