I was in b8 a couple minutes ago, and I had trouble targeting people right in front of me (we weren't near roids).
I couldn't target (or see on radar) FusionBurn or Nahin Lor until they I saw them and watched them for a few seconds, then the bug went away.
Also, there were reports of prox acting funky at 5k meters.... I saw similar issues with players appearing/disappearing on radar after coming back from > 5k distance.

Happened again in Deneb b14. see screen shots:

As you can see in the first pic, i'm looking at a serco cappy, but my radar isn't showing it.
In the second, I'm looking at 3 cappies (I had just turboed in from out of range), but none of them show (you can tell I'm close enough, and I've targeted a cargo drop for reference.
in the third, I'm looking at a ship that can't be more than 100m from me, but I can't see him. lots of those issues in b8 furball tonight (around and before 10pm EST).

Heh. I think the 5 recent threads are all the same topic at this point. ;-)
lol yah just noticed that.
I have screens though. it didn't happen if you don't have screens :).

btw, I'm on a last-generation macbook pro.
We're aware of the issue, hopefully a fix on Monday.
Does anyone in Windows have this problem?
I'm using Linux. Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackalope". Gnome 2.26.1 , GeForce 8300 GS
I'm not seeing a difference from Sunday night. Dau E-9. Bot comes after me out of the mine field. Seems like it never stops being occluded. 3km from anything and still nothing on radar, nothing when hitting x or z.

With admittedly limited testing I was not able to duplicate this on my Vista Windows laptop. A cheap Dell Vostro.
I am also having this problem. Running XP Pro.
My VO crashed earlier (Windows XP) Without even a sound.. just went straight to desktop. Maybe has to do with the multi-thread radar?
The only other bug I've seen is the abusrd prox beep every time something un-occludes.

Ok, this thread is about a specific bug: the inability to see a ship on radar when it is nearby and not near any kind of asteroid. Ray was asking if people on Windows were seeing this specific bug. Please do not report other bugs in this thread.
I have also noticed this bug, but I'm on linux, so I can't check whether it's there on Windows.
I've only been battling bots and not all bots will be affected by this bug. Some ships show up on the radar and others don't, even if they are the same type of ship.
I've noticed this bug at ranges between 1.5km to 3.5km away from asteroids. I haven't been able to check any further than that, since most bots stay near the asteroids.
For me, it's only been once that a ship showed up on the radar a couple of minutes after it should have. The rest of the ships are off the radar for the full duration of the fight ( 5+ min. since I'm worthless with out the targeting system )
Also I've never noticed this with the station guard ships or any of the other NPC ships such as convoys, although that could just be because I wasn't paying attention.
I haven't been able to confirm this yet, but it seems like this bug may be more noticeable ( eg. affect more ships ) on sectors with more asteroids.

Heh, it's funny watching you guys guess as to the problem.
It's actually based on how many bots are in the sector and how long you've been in the sector already.
If you wait long enough (between 4-6 minutes) the ship will show up on the radar.
Which means I pretty much found the problem. Now I just have to implement the solution.

Go Ray! :)
Yea, I can see Bots again. Lets hope it stays this way.

Yes, it is a mac and linux problem. A client patch should be ready tonight.
As for the prox beep, there's nothing that can can be done about it. That's how the prox warning works.

Uhh. Don't mind Ray. We'll figure something out for the prox warning, but it may not be out tonight.
Yeah, I think of the prox warning as a radar-entry warning. We can make it only notify you the first time a given ship is visible, and then if the ship becomes occluded and visible again, it won't notify you. It'll make players able to sneak up on you if you don't keep track of them once they were visible the first time.
