Very slow download of updates
Hello, updates are sometimes very slow. Right now it has been 1-2 hours (with 1 or 2 cancellations) and I have only got 671KB or 5%.
Five minutes ago I ftp connected to the same server, update1.vendetta-online.com ,started downloading some file and have already got 40 MB of data. So the slowdown is somehow related to the download method of the game.
I got Vendetta to use the secondary update server update2.vendetta-online.com, it behaves exactly the same.
Is it possible to manually download the update files from somewhere?
I'm using Debian 5, 32 bit.

Must be your connection. Mine downloaded in under 5 minutes
I had the update downloaded in about 10 seconds? Maybe 20?
We are going to release a new full install version this weekend, but there's no way to update without the updater.
When you are ftping, how are you doing that?

I used ncftp in a terminal to connect to the update server and download some file from there.
Tonight the update seems a little faster although it pauses a lot.
It begins to look like my ISP is bandwidth limiting some ports.
edit: Looking at a tcp trace there are lot of retransmitted packages or lost segments. There are much fewer such events during ftp. Maybe this is normal, I have no experience using a tcp trace software.
edit: now it suddenly dowloaded quickly, it is almost exactly 2 am local time suggesting this is related to some evening traffic control by my ISP.

yep dropping packets is the only real way http has to control traffic.
