Caps lock does what it's supposed to do: locks your keyboard to capital letters only.
Since most commands in VO prefs are defined with small letters it is understandable that caps lock (when pressed) locks you out of ability to activate some functions.
Just pay attention and try to avoid pressing it during playing VO.

or, if you want... you can bind the capital letters
e.g.
/bind w +Accelerate
/bind W +Accelerate
/bind s +Decelerate
/bind S +Decelerate
to see what a key is bound to just do /bind <key>

Come on, peytros. Be Nice.
Chris_C, The game uses lower-case characters for most of the commands. Pressing the Caps lock causes upper-case characters to be used instead, thereby not responding to lower-case commands.

I do appreciate the function of the cap lock key, but it is rather near the default turbo button so some *default* CAPS key mappings would be useful
The alternative is to capture the keyboard at a lower level which avoids the problem altogether...

Well, there are default caps key mappings, which is part of the issue. We use both lowercase and capital shortcut keys, with the intention of them not overlapping. Most of the common keys are lowercase, but to eliminate all caps would significantly reduce the number of shortcut options we have for the future.
Remap your keys, and STFU.
