After quitting VO last night I was presented with a "BugReport" which said that VO had crashed. I didn't notice a crash actually. But for several minutes prior to the crash I noticed odd behaviour in my VO client. I reported that behaviour in the crash report. I am detailing it here as others might have had the same experience.

"I was doing combat practice in Latos M-7. {Returning to station for repairs I] had very poor helm control and garbled text in chat. Ship seemed to be constantly sliding sideways. Could not make the nose point. Once I got to station had to use side thrusters to dock. Quit out of VO. Quitting seemed normal. [After quitting I found that sometime during the combat practice] I hit the command to switch to Japanese keyboard. [I believe this was what] caused the chat text to go wonky and caused erratic helm control as the keyboard inputs were wrong.

I restarted VO ... with the keyboard set properly everything was normal. However, one funny thing. Before the "crash" I was in full screen mode. But when VO restarted I was in window mode."
