Oruns flying through roids in the newbie sector
The oruns just outside the newbie station like to do this:
Taken 2/19/9 13:37 GMT
Taken 2/19/9 13:37 GMT
Object model: 1.
Collision model: 0.
Collision model: 0.
Long-term known thing. The meshes progressively degrade, and as is inherent to that algorithm, deflate when doing so. The collision hulls do not degrade or deflate, so as a result we chose to make the hulls a little smaller than the object. This way, people using decreased detail settings would not run into "invisible" collision objects that were outside the bounds of the deflated visual mesh.
Nowadays, we could probably make a new set of collision hulls for those asteroids, that better reflect the "maximum poly count" surface, since turning down progressive mesh detail is no longer that common. It's a possibility.
So, anyway, more a "feature" than a "bug", but thanks :).
