Not sure if this is a VO quirk or my OS: VO starts behind Finder

Feb 11, 2009 oddjobbob link
Anytime I start VO from a Finder "Applications" Window VO opens behind that Finder window. I don't recall if this was the case with the version I started with, but i do notice it with the current edition VO 1.8.57. Also, the Update Utility window opens in front of the Finder "Applications" window, as I would expect, but when I click on "Play Vendetta" the login screen opens behind the "Applications" Finder Window. This only happens if i have Options>>Video>>Window/Full Screen set to Window.

Again, this is not an issue that causes any great heart-ache. All I have to do is mouse over to the Vendetta window and click on it, or CMD-TAB to the VO Log-in screen. However, my experience with most "polished" applications is that they open in front of everything. Also, being someone who hates to mouse around or even CMD-TAB if I shouldn't have to, it would be nice if VO, too, opened as the front screen.

Perhaps the devs have a reason for this behavior, I don't know. But in any case, I view this as an "eating crackers" thing over which I won't be kicking VO out of bed.

The problem happens in Windows, but only sometimes. I've tried to get it to start up front, but the way VO is launched from the updater causes the window manager to get confused and open the window behind everything else.

I've not heard of it happening on the mac until now, though.
I have VO on my desktop so I don't have a finder window open when I launch VO. I'll try it your way and see what I can do.

Aloha raybondo,
I didn't think about how it would start if I used a Vendetta icon on the Desktop. My desktop is generally so cluttered I never use it to launch Apps.

Following you thinking, I put Vendetta on my Dock. In that configuration the Update Utility opened in front then the login opened one screen back. It doesn't seem to matter what screen is on the front. When Finder windows were open on front the Vendetta Login Screen opened behind the topmost Finder Window. If Safari is open in front then the Vendetta Login screen opens behind the topmost Safari window.

Basically it is the same behavior as if I launch Vendetta from the Applications Window.

I really know nothing about how it works as I have no experience programming other than using a database program called 4D, but it seems sort of like this...

Update Utility tells Vendetta to open behind it. But it disappears before Vendetta appears. Vendetta, thinking it is supposed to open "one screen back" opens behind the topmost applications topmost window because that position is the new "one screen back." If that doesn't make sense to you...well...hahaha...it doesnt really make sense to me having reread it.

I will say this, as well, it is very impressive how quickly you respond to the posts I make. Makes me believe VO will always be better.

Thanks.
