is it just me or has the game gone extremely laggy?
As it said. I tried to freeze three times today (in-game naturally) during combat. I was in B8, and though that particular sector has a bad history of lagging it seems to absolutely crap lately.
I get more than 250 fps at a minimum (when someone plays 4th of July in swarms) and have a ping of around 140.
AFAIK it has gotten much worse since the last update...

Its just you, unfortunately.
bleh.
Sedina (both wormholes) was very laggy yesterday to several players...
It is laggy, especially for us with crappy old comps and video cards.
I cant play BS because i get 1 fps average.
I cant play HS because, depending on how big is it, I get fps from 6 to 12.
I cant fight in B8 when big NPC convoys jump in because my fps drops to 12-18 and I get lagkilled.
I cant fight in NW because my fps drops to 12 when a bunch of maniacs start rocket and agt fireworks.

I have the same problems as bojan. i usually have vsync on, but when i dont i have around 300-400fps. My ping is usually 96 or so. every time a voy jumps into b8 i lag. and i dont even bother with BS and HS anymore. It's kind of frustrating.
Solution... Start mining y'all.

Your framerate has nothing to do with.. anything other than your computer. The only reason why, say, B8 would be "laggy" lately is because a lot of people were in there, doing something, or some large complex convoy, or some such.
Beyond adding complex stuff to render into a scene (like, ships and stations and asteroids and missiles and things), we can't change your framerate. So, I have no idea why you would not be able to "BS" now, but could, say, a month ago, we haven't substantially changed the number of ships or anything. It's possible that some client update could make the game slower under certain circumstances.. but I have no idea why that would be. Have you updated drivers recently? The best solution for framerate issues is to reduce your Visual Quality settings in the Options screen. Try one lower than the current (if it's 128MB, try 64MB, and so on).
This is one of the reasons why I hate the term "Lag", which can refer to like 293849 different things, and seems to be a catch-all term of "The game is not working how I like!". Network lag can be a server-related problem.. framerate lag is pretty computer-specific, and is related to the number of objects loaded or whatever.. but.. not really server-related beyond that.
For dynamic content, like ships warping in and the load time for textures, you can avoid this by using the "Pre-load all textures on startup" option, along with making sure you have Texture Compression enabled, then exit and re-run the client. Game startup will be much longer, but you won't have the load-hit when someone warps in. This won't improve persistent framerate issues, like Border Skirmish, but it will help the "convoy warped in" load-time issue in B8 and the like.

Thanks Incarnate.
I have all my graphics and video settings on lowest. I am aware that my Powerbook g4 with 64 MB nvidia is kind of antique but I used to do ok with it before (2 years ago, heh), even in BS.
I know, it time to get a new comp...

Sorry, I lag is not a good bug description.
I use an iMac 2.33 dual core with 3GB RAM. Standard mac with 10.5 newest updates. My connection is a 20/2 Mbit direct line.
I have not had problems with lag previously (even in Leviathan sector). However, I have experienced that my screen freezes sometimes once, sometimes 4-8 times an hour, especially when doing combat but also when I am alone in the sector (happened twice in Latos O-12). The freeze started to happen roughly after Christmas, and at the same time I started lagging in combat as well against even single opponents (and no swarms).
I I already use the pre-load feature.
I was just asking if anybody else has the problem or if it was specific to me. In the latter case I would have to check my connection and stuff.
Thanks

Your network connection will not cause a screen freeze (ie, everything freezes). It would only cause other people to jump around, but your own ability to fly would be un-impinged.
The client "freezing" can be a sign that your videocard's texture memory is overused and is "texture thrashing", causing it to have to continually swap textures on and off of the card. You could try enabling Texture Compression. But, we haven't increased any texture resolutions, beyond the "bone" asteroids, so a Leviathan sector should be unchanged.
It could also be a sign that you have something else running in the background on your system? Even something trivial like a web browser that has some obnoxious flash ads, or some such.
You could generally try reducing your Visual Quality settings and see if that helps.

Azumi - check your iMac's heat. Your GPU could be overheating. (Just like my 'lil iMac!) I had a neat little app called Temperature Monitor, I think it was free.
If your temps get above 70 C, time to start thinking about active cooling. (More fans, etc.)

Thanks for the suggestions. I did as you said Leber and never came above 65.
I kicked everything in the background and it did the same. I kicked all my plugins and same shit...
I'm getting someone to look at my computer and see if something is wrong, sounds like a my-end problem.
Thanks for the help all.
