So I'm updating to 1.8.41, and it's going at about 5 KB/sec

I'm plugged in to my school's T3 connection, and everything else works at it's normal blazingly fast speed.

I've had this "problem" since last year, when my school started throttling traffic based on port numbers. Chances are, your new school does the same.

On the plus side, it gives me time to shower every once in a while while my update downloads!

I guess we'll find out next update? This happened to me a few times at home, so I'm more inclined to think it's on VO's side of things, but it could also just be coincidence.

Well for most ppl it worked fine so it looks like something between your ISP and VO server. Can you run traceroute to vo update server ?
