update bug
Hello all.
A few of my friends have told me a little about this game, so i thought I would check it out.
Sadly, after I installed it and ran it the first time the updater crashes.
I have read several posts about the same issue, is the server not working?
Updater starts and hangs here.

Hmm. I'll check it out now.
It works fine for me. The updater properly updates itself and then updates the game.
If you want to try again with the updated updater, you can download it from here: http://www.ratelis.com/vendetta.exe
Then you can replace the old vendetta.exe with this new one and also replace the old update.rlb file with this same vendetta.exe renamed to update.rlb.

Thanks...
I'll give that a try tonight.
I'm going to test on a borrowed laptop, also runnning WINXP.
I'll reply with my progress.

The program installs and runs on the laptop, looks like a cool game.
I have followed raybondo's instructions and still no luck with my desktop.

Well, there are a few things you can try that have worked for me in the past- one was to simply delete/rename update.rlb and run VO as normal, though I haven't had to do that for quite some time. It should also be possible to directly run vendetta.rlb by renaming it to vendetta.exe, which bypasses the updater. The downside is that every time the version changes, you'll need to somehow get the latest versions to connect to the server.
Maybe there's some firewall preventing you from connecting to the update server.
Whoohoo!
I regret that I have no reasonable explanation but I am glad to report that I have the game up and running!
Thanks for your help 'raybondo'.

ok...
I'll make my last remark.
I have downloaded the game via a torrent. I have had no issues since.
I have tested this on two separate systems.
Coincidence?

Been trying to update since Friday, but I keep getting this error:
Connecting to update1.vendetta-online.com:21024...
Disconnected
The updater doesn't try the other update servers (and I know it should probably be doing so, as I have seen it do so in the past), even when I let it sit overnight.
This seems to occur at random intervals; I can't really see if there's anything in particular that causes it on my school network.
My current setup:
MacBook Pro 15" (1440x900 resolution)
OS X 10.5.5
Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz
2GB RAM
ATI Radeon x1600 w/ 256MB
I also have an Acer 22" x223w external display at 1680x1050 resolution, which is used as the primary display when running OS X.
As long as there aren't any protocol version updates I should still be okay, though. :/

I just found and fixed that bug; we'll have a new updater out tomorrow.
But I don't know whether you'll be able to update... if you get a "Disconnected" that means the TCP connection between you and the update server was severed, and most likely not by the update server.
I hope our protocol doesn't look like bittorrent or something to deep-packet-inspecting gateways.
