Unable to initialize Voice Chat

Jun 25, 2008 Impavid link
I get the "Unable to initialize Voice Chat" error every time I restart VO. The only way to fix it is to erase all the Voice Chat parameters from the config.ini file. I'm on OSX10.5.3

Then after you erase all the settings, it works forever or just until you restart VO again?

Just until I restart VO again, then it won't initialize again.

Ever since 1.8.23 I have been unable to use voicechat.
"Unable to enable Voice Chat.
Voice Chat Initialization failed."

No changes to anything else in the system - Version 1.8.22 worked fine with voice chat. Upgraded to 1.8.23, then these problems started to occur.

I am on WinXP SP3. Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 headset/mic combo.

Other apps that use record or voice (Audacity, Skype) still work fine.

I removed config.ini, restarted VO, and at least it allowed me to "enable" voicechat, but nothing actually "worked." Furthermore, when I tried to enable device selection, VO hung and took the whole computer with it, requiring hard reboot.

Upon restarting without removing config.ini, the problem re-occurred. So i put the original config.ini back in.

No change.

It's ok to just admit that you have me and Impavid voice-muted.

These are the Voice Chat lines in the config.ini:

playbackmode=15
capturemode=15
VCidentity=20VFxCp2uIbv+V8UFu5sINnBv7xs65+F1Z4TH8peEx0VAMrUwZtXhlwERUGCUpGIHtLVWJ1GVliQh8sQn0GeGJoVUMDdGJBEXtbLg5BChMQSl0aeHJtAHBaDUY9WA9QDFJ/IGpYXXM4d0NJUURFSWdLUVlRTnl3K2xjSmJGV281QVpXb09FcFZUaHlXTlJGY29pSVFKTUR3PT0=
enabledeviceselection=1
ptt=1
voicechatagc=1
voicechatVAD=0
voicechatcomplexity=2
enablevoicechat=1
soundduckinglevel=0.86
voicechatVolume=100
playbackdevice=C-Media USB Headphone Set
capturedevice=C-Media USB Headphone Set

I delete all but the first two:
playbackmode=15
capturemode=15

And I leave a single line blank between capturemode=15 and whatever line is after it. It's the only way I can fix it, and I have to do it every time I start VO or it won't initialize.

That's gay.

Deleting that shit works now as of 1.8.23.1

Have not had to do anything else since the deletion. Works every time now.

This line seems to cause the problem:

playbackdevice=C-Media USB Headphone Set

When I remove it, VO starts up with voice enabled
