Sometimes when I experience network latency, my avg ping value drops to values under 20, sometimes down even to 2... cable modem, wireless router. Mac OSX 10.2.6. gfx settings at scene 1/distance 14.

Honestly, just wondering if anyone was experiencing this also... and how to get around it...

Wait, you're problem with a really low ping is.... what?
Low ping = good connection
High ping = bad

yes... low ping= lag. very high ping= lag. middle ground... slow play.

Yeah, you could have a relatively low ping with bad packet-loss.

So the packet loss is why I am lagging at that ping value? If so, what can I do to remedy it? Aside from getting a more reliable ISP (ours has been on the fritz _QUITE_ often recently), that is.

Sometimes it reports an insanely low ping because of problematic packet losses even though the actual latency is around 800....

Again, what can I do about it?

This kind of thing happens with NTL. You need to find a way to limit your bandwidth on either the modem or the connection between your computer & modem.

eg, your modem goes at 120kbps, limit it to 100kbps, this stops the overspill which stops packet loss. I have no idea how to do this on a mac though :/

I have a simple 56k modem. I dont have problems, but i get a really strong signal. Maybe if theres a way to change your router? access a closer one? (try getting Cable Nut.. make your cable a lot faster and fix paketloss. URL is http://www.cablenut.com/ It was free last i checked.

I still don't get near as good as ping as I should. I avg a ping of 10-30 on Tactical Ops servers (HomeLAN), but on Vendetta, it's at 100-200ish.

PIng is random. I usually get around 50-700.
