I too have trouble updating like armchair_techno
Im on Mac OSX 10.3.9 and it too has frozen whilst updating?
(800 MHz PowerPc G4)
What do I do? Not being on a laptop means I can't move to a different network or anything? I worked fine for a couple of days so I dont understand what the problem is?

Just tried a different copy of vendetta which did the same thing, and I've checked my network config's and there fine and I know my ISP is fine so I'm really stuck as to finding out whats wrong? (Plus I have over 150mb free space).
Have you:
1) try changing the MTU in the network options of the game (to "compatibility mode"), (does not apply here)
2) try bypassing a router if present,
3) ping majikthise.guildsoftware.com,
4) tracepath majikthise.guildsoftware.com,
5) Let us know the results of 3 & 4 and how 1 & 2 affect your situation.

1,3 and 4 cant do becuase I cant even get on the server at at all and I can't bypass the router?
Are you doing this from a school network?
You do 3 and 4 in a terminal in your OS. Not in VO itself. (Does ctrl+alt+t open a terminal on a mac? I dunno, but try it.)
On a Mac:
Navigate to Applications/Utilities/ and open Terminal
#3: type "ping majikthise.guildsoftware.com" and wait until it's done about 20-30 pings, then type control-C to stop it.
#4: type "traceroute majikthise.guildsoftware.com" and wait until it's finished.

#5: post results here.
