Changing the resolution in the amd64 linux client crashes back to the desktop. I've tested it in both Ubuntu 7.10 and a reasonably up to date Gentoo install. It goes through the Loading Textures asterisk animation, then disappears to the desktop. If in fullscreen mode the desktop is left in whatever resolution you had tried to change to. I believe it started happening with the last couple of updates (seems there was a similar Mac bug), but I don't change resolutions that often.

Got the same problem with Ubuntu 7.10 and AMD64.

This went away for me with the last update.
