Faction Standing bugs
Bug nm 1: I'm sure you're all aware of this one, but it's a reminder.
Itani faction standing unwilling to increase properly. I've been doing allsorts of missions for Itani but my standing won't increase above +998.
Bug nm 2: I'm not sure how this happened, but I was defending myself from a player attack in UIT space, when I got the warning messages to cease fire and a second before he died (I had already shot missiles after him) and then my UIT standing decreased enourmously. and HE had shot me first! How can this be? Now the UIT hate me and I'm being hunted down by the strike force... I had Admire just before that! Help!

Not a bug, but a (wicked) feature.
It's a classic tactic: have an high standing with faction X, provoke a fight with someone, bring the fight close to an X station, and let the attacked player kill you - quite easy to do, really.
Since death is irrelevant, the damage you can inflict with a standings drop is WAY worse than any ship/eq combo you might need to buy back once killed. That's probably the most damaging action you can "inflict" on a player: have him work his/her ass off, to regain the lost standings with procurements, or escorts in case the standings drop below the "you can dock here" level.
Even deeper effect if X is a gold/grey corporation: recovering their standings is infintely worse than recovering standings with one of the three main factions (Itani, Serco, UIT).
We're waiting in trepid and virginal contemplation for the devs to properly plug this ridiculous, gigantic loophole.

It wasn't at a station >_>
It was in UIT monitored space, with orun collectors, and the guy shot me first before I unleashed my fire upon him. The warning didn't come up untill AFTER I'd shot 90% off him and my swarms were already launched.
Swarms hit, and BOOM! I have -607 UIT standing. instead of my more-or-less +500...
I've managed to crank it back up to dislike, but still. I'm getting very frustrated with things like this just happening.
It's horrible that just one player can ruin a game like that for someone.

Same stuff as it would happen in a station sector. "Monitored by" means just that. And thank that it was "just" UIT.
Look man. You did wrong. NEVER FIRE AT ANY ONE IN MONITORED SPACE. You can check other players faction status by selecting them and press "k". If they are admired or higher don't kill them let them kill you. Also assume every UIT is admired in there space.
If someone attacks you DIE!! Thats the only way to win.

only -607 UIT? shit man, you got it easy... that's like 18 bot kills to -599, and then you can level it back up quickly with trading. That's nowhere near as bad as what Roda did to a few people by getting them KoS Xang Xi... that shit they'll NEVER earn back.
And Syyk, I wouldn't call it a classic tactic. Most people use the standing loss as a deterrant, the way it's meant to be used. Only a few assholes will tank someone's standing intentionally, extra asshole points for doing it to a newbie in their own nation's space. Off-hand, the only person I can think of that makes a habit of doing that is Roda Slane. It *is* an exploit, and not a feature. Likewise, the devs have also said that the faction lockup at +998/999 is a bug, and will eventually be fixed.

Cunjo, that's classic for the people that use to roam gray corp space.
Like the "honest and peaceful" POS (no, that's not "pillar of society" - but the other POS) you named in your post.

Sorry, I meant -706, not -607... >_>
And I've been at it constanly now, and only got it up to about -350... I had admire before...
Syylk, what 'other' pos are you talking about?
And also, I couldn't find any bulk missions anymore... they kinda dissapeared and now I've got very slow standing income... the game just isn't enjoyable anymore like this. And it was just getting so fun...
But why isn't there someting like the ability todefend yourself? I mean, that guy shot ME first, so why do I have to suffer by defending myself?
I'd like a dev to awnser that, please...

do proucuremts :)
Syyk, please don't judge grey space pilots by Roda's actions.
Fastest way to get it back is to find a Fringe station (I believe there's one in Edras, and possibly another in Ukari) and do procurement missions from there.

@Glunnator: Piece of sheet. 'Mkay?
@SCN - or whoever you are: if Roda rants (bartender!) about being the honest and peaceful epytome of everything gray and unaligned, then let me use him as depiction of what you could expect once you cross nationspace monitored boundaries.
Mind you, I leave grayspace only for my DR scouts and laps. Occasionally I return home in goldspace to haul aaps for NWs, or to go queening, or to look out for Tung escorts. But that's about it.
Players in gray space are not assholes like Roda, in general. But it's important that pilots unaccustomed to what lurks here, be ready for when they meet Roda and his sewage kins, and face their "honest and peaceful" tactics.

@ghostie: yes, that's what I've been doing to get it to -350...
@SCN: thanks for your suggestion, I was already thinking of trying that...
Meh.
Orright, let's have another try at setting it right...

one wish adressed to the devs.
Please make sure, that when on missions, with start or ending points at stations you are KOS with this mission ensures you can still dock and get another mission.
Like by mistake (defending yourself) you are kos with faction x.
now you picked up a mission escorting some ship to a faction x station. this escort mission will allow you to enter and for example take another mission.
There always must be a way to regain faction or otherwise make sure the one shooting first will also get the standing loss.

Ah, I wish!
When I was on my Tung-pardoning spree, I knew that the last sector in my escort route is always a "dodge the seeker while the slowass moths dock".
Now, for the fun of adults and kids, the escort missions have been removed ALTOGETHER, so there is presently *no* way to regain faction below -599 in case of non-nation factions.
