Hi Amigo
I'm really sorry to hear about this persistent, intermittent and hard-to-trace disconnect issue.
I use a mac, OSX 10.4.10, BT broadband (UK), didn't do anything to config, standard/defaults, works out the box, no problems.
You wanna compare notes with Niki und andere leute in Deutschland.

I'm low-tech so maybe my suggestions are off-base, but hear me out:
- is it possible that your connection is subject to script-kiddie hacking / DOS? If I leave my PC on (same BT broadband) I regularly get hack attempts. If I leave my wireless on, I sometimes get hack attempts.
- is it possible for you to debug the routing from your house to Guild in Minnesota (or wherever), how many hops etc? display the routing table. ping. traceroute. stuff like that.
- is it possible to run debugging / traceroute package whilst you're playing. Does the routing ever change at all. Does your IP ever change midsession (or maybe you're fixed IP. mine is handed out DCHP each time I switch on).
- of course ISP (in my experience) response is usually "oh, no problem on our end, must be your end, reset your router to factory defaults, sir, and for good measure logoff and logon to computer again..." (dumb). Maybe you're lucky and you got good staff in Deutschland who're technically expert. (unser helpdesk leute sind in Asie...). If so, maybe they can debug what's going on - they are part of the problem after all.
- of course your other games, apps and stuff works fine... nevertheless, do try this: swap broadband modem/routers with someone. That will at least eliminate that point of failure from your enquiries. If you have a MacBook Pro, try playing at your GF / bestfriend / brother / etc place, see if you still get disconnects.
- are there particular times when the disconnects can happen, and other times when they don't? like for example if it always happens during the afternoon but never after midnight, you might suspect telephone rings / pickups on your local line or neighbour line. (shouldn't be an issue, but remember I'm low-tech ...)

Anyway good luck with that, I hope it gets fixed
see ya ingame :-)

The sequence of events as observed by me during the NW was as follows.
Shaded and I were engaged in a fight . Shaded at about 25 % armour. Instantly shaded seems to jump about 400 m away , a second or so I get the message " EE killed Shaded " . No explosion, Shadeds ship just spinning .
I turn and go to chase Erebus.
A couple of minutes later Waldoze says in group " Why cant I kill Shaded " I say "timeout " but it shows that you were sitting in the sector .

Normally when players time out they vanish more quickly than that .

its just another snippet of info that might help.

*sigh* so 128 byte you say the largest package was?...
i appreciate the effort a1k0n and yes i could try to connect directly... well i did not recheck the boards after my last post because i was tired and yes logged of then, maybe you could do me the favour of tracking what is happening somewhen else? hmm difficult to say when i will be back on so hmm you see any chance of informing you? otherwise i would say tomorrow (FR afternoon (CET)) maybe? dunno when you are around normally...

for the hacking attemps they don't really bother me the router should be in stealthmode to everything else than either forwarded services or triggered ones.

i will try running a few more traces maybe i can manage to write them into a logfile of some sort.

Thanks for the help guys.

I got a capture during one of your many timeouts yesterday. It was in the middle of a busy sector (probably a fight but I can't say for sure)

maybe when i was trying to clear bots for a levi hunt that did take place without me because of ...

a1k0n tell me what would you need to figure what the problem might be what questions to my isp, what traces or logfiles could help?

i got a dual G5, what would you like to know to get a hint what the reason might be?

What kind of router/firewall do you have, and have you tried bypassing it?

The server is experiencing general issues right now, from what I can tell. People are timing out left and right, but usually still able to get right back on.

yes i bypassed it, and guess what... stable for hours...
it is a netgear router... well simple easy to use...
i anyone has a suggestion about small routers for printer and connectionshare and running stable with VO, let me know...

Netgear are usually quite good Shaded.
I don't know your model (PM me, not public) so I can't comment.
It *may* be an issue with your unit.
If asked to recommend a router I usually recommend a Netgear.
What do I use? I use the BT Homehub (white thing looks like Wii) out the box (it is my phone wireless hub too), my Netgear stuff is in it's box on the shelf now.

I'd also like to know which model. Would be a good thing to put on our website. It may just be a setting on the thing, too.. I guess the first thing to try is a factory reset.

As cable/DSL routers go, though, you can't go wrong with the WRT54G series. They run linux internally and you can upgrade their kernels and so forth, but that doesn't really matter. They work, and they're plug and play.
