l-mines freeze|fps drop

Aug 23, 2006 mr_spuck link
everytime I run into l-mines my client practically freezes, which means insta death for me most of the time. it's like my fps drops to 1 as soon as get hit. anyone else seeing that?
Is it possibly related to these small jumps I see when mining or blowing stuff up? That l-mines produces tons of small hits or something.

playing on linux 2.6
xorg 7.1
radeon 9550 with fglrx drivers

by 'run into' do you mean actually ramming it? or do you mean when it starts zapping you?

zapping. and the more mines zap me at once the worse it seems to get.

Oh and I tried to lower settings already .. it doesn't help

hmm. did the slowdown happen with the production HUD and with the new HUD or just the new HUD or ?

Maybe the updating of the new HUD is causing a major slowdown.

I have the same problem, and I also notice a slight pause when getting hit by any weapon. I guess it becomes much more noticeable with the l-mines because its constant damage.

Hmm, limines caused me to freeze on the *automatic* mtu descovey mode, but on the *compatibility* mode I had no such issues.

I dropped a couple o lmines on spuck too, he didnt *freeze* with one, but two caused some issues apparently.

I'm pretty sure its due to network code issues and nothing else.

Im running windos and i frezze when hit with a weapon. After not playing in a while things dont seem a smooth as before, my sound gets sketchy too. Never did this before maybe my comp doesnt like the red screen when ya get hit. I'll try different settings later.

ok just tested this out.

mtu-disc/compat doesn'T seem to make a difference for me.
the effect wasn't as bad in an empty sector now as it was in a busy station sector.

could highish ping cause problems?

could be an fps issue...there's a lot of animation in those suckers.

I can corroborate RelayeR's thesis. I usually encounter more stutterish game behaviour when encountering L-Mines (that was even way back when), but since my machines always only just scraped by in terms of minimum requirements, I assumed that was normal.
