Explosion Lag
Sorry for the cross post, but there's been no response in the Linux Forum.
A really annoying lag has developed when an explosion occurs. I've tried turning down all the settings in the video selection screen, but it has no effect. Even turning off effects detail has no effect. The lag remains, even when there's no sound or visual effects.
My estimate is that the duration is about 0.25-0.5 seconds. If I use the new interface, it's worse, up to a second, and the sound is significantly affected also, (the note playing at the time continues playing for the duration of the lag).
This only happens on my fastest PC (Athlon64 2800+, 1GB RAM), running either 32 bit or 64 bit clients. My (much slower) Windows PC at work doesn't have the problem, nor does my daughters AthlonXP 2800+ with 512GB RAM.
The problem developed within the past couple of weeks.

Happens to me as well. Ever since the 1.6.9 update, but I thought it was just my slow-ass computer not working fast enough to render the animation.
Do you find it's worse if you enable the new interface?
For some reason with the PDA it now calculates all the bots you've killed for the mission every time a new one is downed.
So just get a new mission.

Are you on a mission?
If you disable effects in the graphics menu, is it still real slow?

Ahhh!
Yes, I've been doing Advanced Combat Practice for DAYS trying to bot up my Serco standing after an erm...incident!
I'll try cancelling the mission and re-starting it.

OK, that's got it sorted. Re-starting the mission removes the lag. But...when the new interface is enabled there is still a barely perceptible lag when a bot explodes that's not there with the old interface. I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't had the problem in the first place, but it's definitely there.
What I can't understand though is why it takes so long to recalculate the number of kills? Surely 100+1 takes a computer the same length of time to calculate as 1+1 ;)

it's not recalculating the number of kills that's all done on the server. the problem is the station interface is displaying the new info when it doesn't need to.
I made some changes to the client so the problem should be much less now. There will probably still be a slight hiccup and I am working on that.
