Ok, when i selected basic combat and launch my mission comp says im level 3 combat license and that advanced combat is now availible but when i go back to the station and look in the mission list, only basic comabt is there. My combat license stats read, 1 (10205/3500) which just doesnt look right ??!!

You were probably powerlvld thru BP by other players and you didnt kill any bots.
Take combat mission, kill a few bots and your levels will fall into place.

It's a feature, not a bug.

You can only go up one license level at most per XP gain. The next time you gain XP in that area, you will go up another license level. Take a shorter mission with a smaller experience gain and you will level again. If your particular level and XP combination has locked you out of the easier missions, you may need to BP again, or take the BS mission and kill something(anything) for another combat boost. Alternately, killing a player of higher levels than you will give you an XP boost.

Your combat level won't go up unless you're in a combat mission, such as Hive Hunt, Border Patrol/Skirmish, or Basic/Advanced Combat Training. If you're unable to access either of those, ask a higher-leveled player to duel you a few times in a low-leveled ship--most will be more than willing, and some might even let you kill them so you can solve the problem.

For the moment, you're probably better off grouping with some people again and having them do a border patrol mission or two to fix it.

You don't gain combat XP in a duel, Miharu. Only straight PvP gives combat XP.

I keep taking the basic combat mission, but as soon as i go outside the station my mission computer says i have completed basic and my combat license has reached level 3 and that adv combat mission is availible. I go back into the station look at the missions and still only basic combat is availible. I look at my stats and im still level 1 combat license!! AArrgggh!!

Ben, arrange to fight someone with a higher license level than you. You can probably find them in Deneb B-12. If you beat them, you will level again.

To all you BP-power-level-sponsors, this is what happens when you power-level newbies, so please, if you're not going to help them FIX it, DON'T DO IT.

It wont let me take the basic combat mission!!!!! Everytime i go outside the station it says i have completed it but wont let me choose the advanced combat mission, see above

by the way , i have never "Power Leveled" whatever that is!

Dock, click on that "Basic Combat" mission, then hit the "Info" button to the lower left. Then click the "Abort" button. That should allow you to see other missions.

As for "power levelling", in your case that would be where you were part of a group with more experienced players who killed a lot of bots in comparison to you. It isn't necessarily a deliberate act on your part - don't sweat it.

Yea, power-leveling isn't the newb's fault, it's the group's fault... unless...

Mom, did you make the BS mission available to < 4 combat people? Since it's possible to get 8000+ XP from that without ever entering the sector or joining a group, that could be a bad thing...

On another note, I have encountered his issue before, and I can attest to the fact that the missions ARE stuck for him if they're rejecting his basic combat mission - the Advanced combat mission will not appear until his license level reaches 2-3, and the basic will no longer be available to him once his license XP is above that required for level 3 (9000) so he CAN NOT get the next level by joining a mission, unless it's another group BP mission, so STOP SUGGESTING IT.

Listen to me, ben, contact a player with higher levels than you, and ask them to fight you, or even just let you kill them (in Deneb, or unmonitored grey space). Explain that you need it to gain the lext level, since you got stuck by a power level.

..escort missions give combat xp... even really short ones..

what level are the escort missions available at?

I just tested by creating a new temporary alt, and as of this post they're available at 0/0/0/0/0

Thanks for you help (especially Cunjo), i managed to get in to a fight with a higher level player who allowed me to blast him. This increased my license level and i now have access to adv combat. I cant remember the name of the player who allowed me to do this, but thanks, i owe you.
