I've downloaded the latest update. When I log in, I get an "invalid spickle string" error. After dismissing the error screen, I log in, but have no characters. I didn't even know I HAD a spickle string. I'd trade it to get my characters back...

[Edit: The error is not consistent. I get different invalid spickle strings on different attempts. Once I did not get an error, and was able to enter the universe just fine. The only odd thing was that my character showed license levels of all zeros and my home location was a numeric designation rather than a system and sector number]

Happened to me a few times as well. Sent in a bug report, but it eventually cleared up after restarting the client. I'm thinking maybe the rush of people downloading the update could be to blame?

Count me in as well. Crazy Spickle strings?! No Chars.

edit: This is on my old man's 733 G4 running 10.2.8. I won't be able to try it on my G5 till I get home on monday.

hmm, same problem, the first error had something to do with the hive, the other two seem to be generic... win XP here.

Uhh. Crap. We'll get a fix on that as soon as possible. Everyone's gone home now, so I dunno if I'll be able to raise Andy or anyone tonight. We'll handle it as soon as we can tomorrow (Sat) though. Your characters aren't gone or anything, it'll just be some sort of retrieval issue.

hmm, looks like the character definition string can not be read correctly... I'm getting "invalid spickle string" sometimes it ends at {1,oea sometimes it goes all the way to the spy=1 ,buskills=14 but I do not remember ever seeing the final }
and at the end there is the stack traceback with a coupla lua and coupla vo_voservernotify addresses, last one being "ServerNotify"
Tried creating a random char in a the last cvhar spot which I'm sure is empty, with a random name a got an error "character name taken", when I just typed in a long series of random chars, I got a long lua error. (is there any way to copy stuff from the lua error window? It is kinda long to copy manually, but it has something with ServerNotify.lua149 - trying to out nil value in otherstats).

We have the bug reports which contain the log.

I know what the problem is and will have a fix shortly... For now, disconnecting and relogging a couple times should hopefully clear it up.

edit: nm, got there. But it did take quite a few restarts... and by the way, the new random char I created is now there as well... now how do I delete something with a name like askfhaskldhbaskdasdkjahsd when I have to retype it correctly? ;)))
