NPC Traders Not Dlivering Cargo

May 16, 2006 Anevitt link
If this has already been reported or is part of the design that is going to turn into somthing else I apologise in advance. (I havent been around till just recently and havent had a chance to read up on a lot of the news)

When the NPC traders reach their destination, instead of taking their cargo inside like they are supposed to, they just leave all of their cargo right outside the station. Now I know its "free loot" to whoever finds it, but in the end it kills valueable trade routes when someone picks it up and just sells it at the station. If theres somthing about this that I need to know, feel free to let me know. Thanks :D

AFAIK they usually do deliver. Those lumps of cargo are just from bots with faulty brakes. Unless something is borked. :P

From what Ive seen, they usually dont deliver. Ive seen it happen more times than not. Which is why I reported it as a bug. :P

I'm not sure, but I assumed it was because the Behemoth Heavies consistently issue when trying to dock.. they're the only ones I've actually seen this happen to

(maybe they aren't big enough to fit in the dock??)

I mentioned this in-game and a dev (of course I've forgotten which one) told me that it's an AI issue. Docking seems to be a fairly complicated issue for a bot in a Behemoth.

He mentioned different fixes, such as having the cargo be automatically removed from a ship when it is near the station, if this becomes a big issue for players.

In the meantime , I will continue to build my personal fortune off of the misfortune of hapless convoy mothbots. :P

I have seen this happen a number of times .
From observation ships damaged during a storm or previous issues are particulary prone to loss. They shuffle their way into to dock, lose their last few percent of armour and explode leaving cargo at the dock entrance.

I have also seen two ships from different convoys try to dock similtaneously; they seem to wrestle themselves to destruction.

I would agree with Mr S that the vast majority dock successfully, but the large numbers of convoys makes Anevitt's comments about dropped cargo affecting trade prices is equally relevant .

I appreciate that docking AI is a complicated business ( docking with real Intellegence has its moments ) . Perhaps one way to alleviate the problem would be to have NPC's repair as they enter the sector rather than the station but that too might be a difficult coding issue .
