Mac Crash: Freezes entire system
I'v been looking at the different crash threads under various headings..
Seems they are all the one issue, a crash under OSX that is hanging the whole system! The crash is apparently fairly random, though never happens while inside a station and most often seems to happen around weapons/mining beams firing..
Occurs on various Mac systems using G4 chip from what I can see posted people were all running OSX 10.4.6 (the latest current update)..
I can't get a crash log, since the entire system is locking up one isn't generated!
However in the system logs I'm finding:
IOAudioStream[0x1f70700]::clipIfNecessary() - Error: attempting to clip to a position more than one buffer ahead of last clip position (0,659)->(1,af4).
IOAudioStream[0x1f70700]::clipIfNecessary() - adjusting clipped position to (1,659)
I'm not sure this is related to the crash, but it does seem to be some sort of bug here anyway..?
A friend with the exact same system as mine hasn't had it crash at all and our only differences are with video settings, so I will play around with those a bit and see if I can discover what if any particular setting causes it..
I'm finding this VERY frustrating and have lost a lot of ships from the game crashing.. Something hanging the entire system is very very bad, thats something I would expect to happen in windows.. Anyway it must be something involving kernel memory space to take down the system, so likely graphics or sound..

Turning audio off doesn't solve it.

Okay, here's a question.
What texture detail are you using? Are you playing with shaders (with or without the full scene glow effect)?
If the first is too high and the second is "yes with glow on" then your vid card might be overheating. I know I've had this problem since late last summer, and it's irritating me quite a bit--the game looks great without shaders and glow, but it looks ten times better with them on...

are you kidding me? I play a lot of FPS games and have NEVER had this problem. I don't like my OS X to behave like winXP so I'll just stick to Wolfenstein ET. Thank you.
Love your game just as I loved the old skool Privater game.

OS X has had problems in the past with their OpenGL drivers locking up the computer. I'm working with Apple right now on a problem with the new intel macmini, for example.
The other problem I can think of is that the new ships we introduced recently pushed the 64meg settings of our game over the 64meg limit and is causing problems on the mac if you have a 64meg video card.

I'v turned off
*illumination maps
*environment maps
*bump maps
*shaders
So far no crash, I will give it a bit longer then start enabling them and see if I can narrow it down to one of these settings causing it..

i think it's the shaders. I turned them off and have not had a single FPS drop or a crash for about an hour or so.
Shaders ==> KOS ;)

Ok, thanks for the update.
I was afraid that the shaders were causing the problems. Very unfortunate.

I've got the same problem, but it's the full-scene-glow that does it for me. I can pretty much max out everything else, but turning that on (even at lower settings) causes full-system lockups about every hour or so.
