Joystick bug

Dec 18, 2005 piglamamonkey link
My config: Mac OS 10.3.9 on a 1.8 G5 with a Logitech Attack3

Bug description: first the client takes a good while to go to the loading screen; then the screen gets frozen for a while (1 min or so) even if there is music like the login screen was there; at last the login screen pops up but then both cursor and keyboard don't work.
This does not happen if the joystick is unplugged.

Crappy way around: I open the config.ini and set the joystick enabled as 0, launch the game, quit, then reset enabled as 1 and relaunch. That works. But that's pretty boring.

Is there a way to permanently fix this?

I will preface this by saying that I do not have a Mac, so actual Mac users will have to provide specifics.

Your experience is not typical, therefor it has something to do with your system - most likely a conflict. Are you running ANY other software concurrently Vendetta?

Thanks for the quick reply!
I don't have any other software running, except sometimes Firefox or TextEdit but the bug happens anyway.

Looking on the 'net it appears that the Attack3 might behave better if you run the Profiler software it came with...but I don't think Logitech provides any Mac support for that. Also see this:

I run an attack 3 and an extreme 3d without any software for them. No problems so far.

Are you running USB overdrive or any other HID driver stuff?

Ya, it sounds like a conflict.

Do you normally use the joystick with other games? I'm curious if perhaps you are using an unpowered USB hub and need to switch to a powered hub.

Yes, make sure the stick is plugged into the computer USB port and not the keyboard USB bus.

Only use native OS X HID support or Logitec driver... never a third party HID emulator.

One other workaround is to unplug the stick, log into the game then, plug the stick back in.

Thanks again for the help.

I'm not running USB overdrive or any other driver than apple's (nothing but the stock 10.3.9).

The stick is plugged on the front usb port, without any hub; I think it has the same specs as the rear ports, but I'll check this again. I'll also check if there is any conflict with antivirus and similar programs.

And I'll try Relayer's suggestion. That would be much better than my current workaround!

EDIT (to avoid double posting): Thank you Relayer for your suggestion, it works. I must still launch VO twice but no need to edit the ini anymore. Yay!
