FX detail change = CRASH

Nov 12, 2005 Cunjo link
turn up GFX detail levels + click 'OK' = better detail + poorer framrerate

turn back down GFX detail levels + click 'Apply' = VO hang + command prompt + operating system crash + boot failure

any idea what caused it?

Sorry, I don't think people were clear that you were still having a problem. Are you unable to get in the game?

If you are unable to play, just go into your Vendetta folder and delete the config.ini file. That will reset your FX to the default and make a new file for you once you enter the game.

You could try posting your graphics card brand and driver version, but often these things are caused by undocumented idiosyncrasies of the card or driver.

You might want to get the settings to what has been working for you, then save a copy of the file as "config.iny" or something before you start to experiment again.

to be honest, I haven't had the time at home to try since then. I was simply hoping someone may be able to tell me what was going on with it, and why I can't turn down my FX more to bump up framerate (which has been an issue lately)

since nobody ever reads the windows forum...

and I have absolutely no idea what card I have - the manufacturer won't tell me either.

as for the driver, I'd have to look that up when I get home... I do remember also causing this crash by trying to change it before in an attempt to stop some surface flickering.

I know the Mac had a similar problem when detail was changed AND window/full screen was changed at the same time.

You might want to experiment a bit to see if it is one thing causing it or a combination of actions.

As FM stated, most times the problem you describe is due to your software/hardware and not the game.

This can also happen if you turn on texture compression while ingame.. The game won't release RAM fast enough and will ( on linux) be killed by the OOM routine.

Here, the Vendetta process was consuming a touch over 1.7 Gb of RAM before being brutally slain

First off, which graphics settings are you changing?

Texture detail? Effects detail? Resolution? Window/Fullscreen mode? Shaders? (Video menu)
Distance LOD (level of detail)? Object LOD? Glow effects (rglow)? (Graphics menu)

He might not be looking at this thread anymore, given that it's been dormant for nearly a month and a half.
