Raise Your Hand if you Removed Norton Internet Security
*raises hand*i now can finally login thx to the removal of the malfunctioning Norton.
I still have Norton enabled, but I did have some trouble when I got it and continue to have a minor issue with VO after most patches. I've had success with disabling it, running the game, and then re-enabling while in the game. This seems to force Norton to question me about handling VO, but I have to switch to the desktop in order to see it.
It got worse for me and was not letting me disable it even in the supervisor log in. It's like it had a mind of it's own...perhaps the new skynet? Anyway it wouldn't let me log in certain web sites and wouldn't let me update my windows OS. Or even not let me get any support from anywhere or any help. Weird little guy.

I have been unable to find a reference to a bug preventing you from disabling NIS from the Supervisor log in. This might be helpful:
"Verifying that you are logged on as a Supervisor
Norton Internet Security uses User Accounts to determine whether a user is able to perform certain features in the program. Norton Internet Security cannot be uninstalled unless you are logged on as a Supervisor account.
To log on as the Supervisor account
On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > Norton Internet Security > Norton Internet Security.
Along the left side of the main window, click User Accounts.
Your account status will be displayed by the field: "You are logged on as:"
Do one of the following, depending on your situation:
If you are not logged on as the Supervisor account, go on to step 4.
If you are logged on as the Supervisor account but you still receive a message indicating that you do not have appropriate rights to uninstall Norton Internet Security, then skip to the next section, "Removing Norton Internet Security when Add/Remove Programs does not work."
Click Log Off.
If you are prompted with a confirmation dialog window, click Yes.
Click Log On.
In the Account Name field, select Supervisor.
In the Password field, type your password.
If you have never assigned a Supervisor password, you may have to leave this field blank.
Click OK.
You should see the following text displayed: "You are logged on as: Supervisor."
Try to uninstall Norton Internet Security, and do one of the following depending on the result:
If you are still unable to uninstall Norton Internet Security: Skip to the next section, "Removing Norton Internet Security when Add/Remove Programs does not work."
If you are now able to uninstall Norton Internet Security: The problem is fixed. If you would like more information regarding User Accounts within Norton Internet Security, read the document Configuring Parental Control and user accounts for Norton Internet Security."
Failing that, an uninstall / reinstall has been known to work wonders. (Gah!)

it's hard to remove it when you never installed it in the first place. =)
Norton sucks... like a hoover at a movie theatre... literally. all your resources are belong to norton, and that's not cool.

Well I have already removed it. And yes i'm quite aware how to log into the supervisor. I'm just asking to see if anyone else had problems in general to norton.

Er...that's really not what this forum is for. You'd be better off posting in some sort of Security forum someplace, or in Off Topic I suppose. If you post here, somebody is likely to try and take the time to assist you.
My efforts were for others who might have been having problems but had not yet deleted the software, or for you if you wanted to make a go of NIS again.
A search suggested that your first problem may have been due to security settings that were too high. That issue was trumped by your report that you were unable to make changes as Supervisor...which you would need to do in order to drop the security settings to a tolerable level. Since you had already uninstalled, a reinstall might net you better results this time around.

Yikes! I didn't notice until I came back to the thread. Thanks.
hrmpf, again with the tinyURL. *sniff*
I had to fix a Norton install for someone recently. After messing around with it for some time, and downloading a special tool from Norton to remove their otherwise very difficult to remove software (not all the time, but on some machines it goes nuts), my eventual 'fix' was to remove the bloated crapware that is Norton and install AVG instead.
Wouldn't touch Norton with remote-controlled bargepole after that experience.

I personally use mcaffee and have been quite satisfied with it.
AVG is nice and that is what I've had for some time.
