Weapon grouping problems
Yesterday afternon in sector12, I had just bought the red special ship, and I added two Govt. issued plasma cannons to it, and linked them for primary fire. When I left the station, they fired together fine, until i ran out of energy. Then they fired as if I just had one. Upon letting the energy build up again, they were still firing singly! Repeatedly messing with the weapon groupings had no effect on getting it working again, (and other parts worked ok--like: nothing fired if i ungrouped them all). Only after unequiping and reequiping one of the cannons, did they get linked again so I could fire them simultaneously.
After a little experimenting with the dual-plasma cannons, I found out that this wasn't an 'always' thing, it came and went as i played: It failed the second time I tried it too, but the third and fourth time I tried it, it worked as expected...That's all I had time for...
I've got the MacOS X version btw.
Also while i'm at it, I was having lots of trouble with my joystick...it basically stopped working around the last 3-4 updates in 3.1.x I haven't had any chance at all to try it out in 3.2 yet. If I get some free time and it's still messed up, I'll make a seperate report. (It's a Macally clear graphite USB joystick).

Buying the standard ions (cheapest energy weapon at the top) and tripling them up to 3 small ports is problematic also. Set your primary trigger to fire all three at once, and watch what happens as you run out of energy. Only the left and center ones will be firing (oddly enough, at a faster rate!), while the right port will be disabled. Shouldn't the center one only fire when energy is low? What's with the assymetrical and sped up shooting?
I played around with it a bit more now, and noticed that the energy drain is the same as when both fire; even though only 1 sprite is shown on the screen! I think what is happening is both are firing from the same side of the ship at the same time! So it appears to only be a cosmetic bug...
I've noticed too that my groupings get messed up after I come out of the dock. I've made it a habit of reselecting my group as I leave the station.
ANTJedi: yes, that's what I was going to say. The gov't issue plasma cannons alternate sides. So when you fire two simultaneously, each one is swapping sides, effectively crisscrossing every shot. So once you drain and only have enough energy to fire one, you start alternating one and not the other.
The alternating fire stuff is obviously a hack right now.

a1k0n... I don't know man... last night I was testing a four rocket set up. I wanted two rockets to fire off primary1 and two off of secondary1. I came out of the station and fired at a bot, sweet... I fired two rockets. I fired with the secondary, nothing happened. I fired primary again and two rockets came out... anywho I ignored it and eventually ammoed-up back at the station. Went out botting again...
I fire primary. All four rockets fire at once. I fire secondary. Nothing fires. I fire primary all four rockets again. I fire secondary and now there's two rockets firing.
You guys might want to check this out. I could be a total idiot but I checked my groupings over and over again. I even experimented with front/rear slot setups. Its always the same... no matter how I set it up, my grouping gets completely out of wack and turns into something I didn't intend. Its kind of a key thing with rockets as you know, to save ammo too, cause its understandably limited in supply.
Anyway if you have a fix let me know. Its not a huge deal but I do think somethings not quite right there.
I am using Mac OS 10.1.5 with a two button wheeled optical mouse, btw.

You are hitting "Apply" after making changes, right? I'm assuming so, since the default action is only to fire the first weapon with group 1 and the second weapon with group 2, etc.
yessir. I select the group I want to change. Then I select the weapons I want to group together (so they are highlighted in red). I hit the button that applies and finishes the process. Then I repeat it for the Secondary group. What I see happening is weird, like it doesn't even have a set pattern. I just want two rockets firing off of MOUSE1 and two off of MOUSE2.
Yeah, I had trouble with grouping, too.
I bought the graviton gun (forget the correct name) and two rail guns for my Advanced Fighter.
I mounted the graviton in the center and the rails on either side. Then I grouped the rails together.
When I left the station, the 2nd rail gun appeared to remain selected no matter what weapon group I chose. And it also appeared to not fire, but that could have just been a missing sprite... I was too busy screwing around to notice if the energy drain was appropriate.

That's very helpful to include specs on the ship, weapons and groupings used so that others can try to replicate the bug. I'll try it out tonight with the configuration described.
Okay Chameleon, I tried out the setup you described and got the same results you did. You didn't say what battery you used, so I got the Fast Charge. Therein lies the problem: not enough juice to run both railguns at once, so the left always fires when they're paired and the right does not because there was not enough power left over. I switched to a Heavy battery and both railguns fired together.
OIC, I'll give that a try.
Most of you probably figured this out, but to clear up any confusion, because it is confusing:
Pressing 1 and 2 on the keyboard switches your primary weapon group (left mouse button).
Pressing 3 and 4 on the keyboard switches your secondary weapon group (right mouse button).
5 and 6 are for tertiary (usually mine laying, 'v' key by default).
So to select primary group 1 and secondary group 1, you need to press 1 and 3 on the keyboard.
It's possible to map the same weapons to primary and secondary (and tertiary) groups. So you might see situations where weapons that you're not using for your primary group are still highlighted because they're in your secondary group.

OIC; That's not very obvious...
Anyway, Whistler, I had the heavy battery, so your hypothesis is moot.

Well I wouldn't go THAT far. What exactly then is your ship's configuration and do you still have the problem you described?
