Several X servers on Linux -- stars disappear after switch
I run games, including Vendetta, on second X server for easier switching between game display and other "world". It works great, but has some strange bug: when I switch out and then back to Vendetta, starry background disappears, leaving the blackness of nothing. It appears again when I jump somewhere, but only in this case. To dock with the station and get out does not help, for example. And it doesn't matter whether I switch in open space or while docked.
My configuration:
Linux Gentoo
kernel 2.6.12
Xorg 6.8.2
Nvidia GeForce 2 GTS with latest driver of 6### series.
Vendetta is run by:
xinit ~/bin/vendetta -- :1
I have enabled showing station in background while docking.

I run two X servers as well, vt7 (normal) and vt8 for games.
The only "issue" I experience is blackness when I switch back to vt8. The blackness disappears after about 2 seconds.
Are you running vendetta from the first or second server? I always switch to vt8, and then run the game.
Also, 6### isn't the latest.

The currently installed driver is: 'NVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Driver for Linux-x86' (version: 1.0-7676).

I run Gentoo and have similar issues, grayswander. Last I checked, the NVIDIA driver versions >6### were masked. But they have patches applied so they work fairly well.
As far as I can tell, the issue has more to do with the type of card than the driver version. We both have GeForce 2 cards, which I bet is the problem. The card loses some of the textures when you switch to the other X server and doesn't properly re-load them when you switch back.
I just solve it by jumping to an empty sector when I want to do something on another screen. When I'm done, I switch back to Vendetta and warp back to the sector I wanted to be in.
