OK im very mad at this, I was just minding my own buisness tradin in itan and all of the sudden i get a 522k bounty on my head! how i was just tradin! i didnt kill anything nothing!
Bounties are not usually given immediately after a kill--they are frequently on a timer, I've heard it's about a week or so.

What is the criteria for having a bounty placed on ones head?
Its not on a timer.
I get bounties from killing the serco transports and escorts at Sedina L2. I thought it was immedate after i kill a certian amount.

Bounties are immediate. This seems to be a bug unless you had the bounty for a while and just noticed it.
If you get a bounty and its claimed, another one will not show up for a week, no matter when you actually get it. Unless its with another nation.
I'm telling you, I got a bounty placed on my head at the precise moment I issued myself on a roid... twice.
unless you're *supposed* to be penalized for killing yourself, I think they're borked.
...and if you *are* supposed to be penalized for killing yourself, can we at least have the option to claim our own bounty? I mean, if it stands to reason that you can place a bounty on yourself, shouldn't you be able to claim one too? </sarcasm>

I have a question...How does one know they have a bounty placed on them...do you get a message or something...or is it a mystery?

This isnt a bug ctishman, its a feature, its how it works(tm).
Well, Red's bounty is simple, he was in a bus war at a station, and got (48?) quite a few kills. (stations = monitored space)
Bounties are not always placed immediatly, the first bounty maybe, but this isnt red's first bounty, theres a 7 day delay inbetween 2 bounties from the same nation, but this doesnt mean your immune from bounties, it just means the next bounty wont be placed straight away after meeting the criteria.
The bounty system isnt borked, bounty farming isnt borked, the xp loss isnt borked, its as simple as this.
If you dont want a bounty placed on your head, get all your faction standings above -600, you will only ever get a bounty placed on your head by a nation that hates you, but if a nation likes you, they will not put a bounty on your head (but they will remember any kills you do, incase you become hated again).

@FSNI: You get messages in your mission computer when the bounty is first placed and any time the bounty increases, and the bounty will show up on your CharInfo page.

that can't be right... because I got a bounty twice in the same day, for killing the same person (within 10 mintes of eachother, in fact). both bounties were placed immediately, and at the moment, the only nation I was below -600 on, was itani. This was in corvus space.
I also had two bounties placed for killing myself (and yes, I can say that conclusively, as I wasn't even -on- 7 days prior to them being placed, and they were placed instantaneously as I issued on the roid... twice.
So either
a) nobody really knows how they work
or
b) they're borked.

Oh hell is this because of our little buswar in M-14, Red? I mean you only killed me like 6 times, but it WAS in Odia M-14. A Serco player killing lots of Itani-admired players (Like Me & Miharu) can get you an Itani bounty? That sux.
