of combat and keystrokes...
not sure if ti's really a bug, or justa problem that needs solving.. whatever the case, I can't reliably use strafing, because it seems there's a limit on the number of keystrokes the game can handle at once. when using the keyboard, this prevents you from strafing in two directions and rolling, or reverse-trusting, rolling and strafing or (insert combination of any other three keystrokes here). With the joystick, it's even more agitating, as it causes the strafe hat switch to simple cease functioning when you are performing a number of other operations (boosting, firing, rolling, etc...) and has been the death of me in combat on more than one occasion (oops, I suddenly can't strafe... oh no! neutron blasts! /die).
is there any way to fix this?

This is a limitation of the hardware itself. I think most current keyboards only allow 3 or 4 keystrokes to be pressed simultaneously. You can test it out with pretty much every other game or program also. It sucks, I agree, but I don't think there's much you can do about it.
Have you explored the thought of creating aliases and binds for certain repetitive actions to save up on keystrokes? That seems to be the only real solution. Check the Custom Binds thread in the general forum to get an idea of what I'm talking about. Hope that helps.

erk... any chance of a game adaptation to use linear stafing conrols on a joystick?
Are you trying to strafe with buttons on the joystick, or with the axis for the stick itself?
You can buy USB keyboards that address this problem. Look for gaming keyboards that say they have a seperate switch or interupt or whatever for every key. I don't see how this would affect your joystick though, the game itself can handle multiple key inputs just fine.

the Belkin Nostromo n52 is one of the best gaming purchases I've ever made. Its configuration software is very nice, and was able to move a bunch of keys to my left hand, to reduce searching for keys in combat. I bet it'd go very well with a joystick.
interesting.... thanks hoax!
I might have to look into the programming of the joystick... it's set to emulate keystrokes, so I don't know if that's bringing up the hardware issue or not...
as far as I could tell, linear controls for strafe were not an option... unless I overlooked something.

I acually use the Belkin Nostromo n52 and a Logitech ExtremePro X3D joystick. I find it very easy to use. I've mapped the n52 for all of my binds and all the keys i use. I barly use the keboard unless i need to type. And the n52 software is so easy to use. You can assign a bunch of keystokes to one button on the n52. try it out it might work fr you.
And also the n52 is cheap, i think its less then $30 US.

Cunjo, you certainly can bind the joystick axes to linear strafe axes. Just go to the joystick options dialog and hit the little left-right arrow thingies next to "Turn", "Pitch", "Roll" until you've got StrafeLR and StrafeUD (left/right, up/down) as your axes.
