Levi kills framerate

PowerPC G4 1.5 GHz laptop
Mac OS 10.3.9
512 MB ram (256 built in, 256 DDR SDRAM)
GeForce FX Go5200

I noticed this while on the test server...

My screen can be filled with hundreds of guardians, assaults, and queens with no noticable slowdown, but the second the leviathan creeps into even one corner of my screen my FPS drops to 4 or less.

For some reason the leviathan doesn't seem to render so well on my computer.

My graphics card is the opposite.
Pentium 2.876 GHz
Windows XP Service Pack II
1024 MB ram, 400mhz
Nvidia Geforce 6600 256mg [OC'd]
Core: 550mhz
Ram: 600mhz

The only thing that slows down my frames is roids and bots. When I'm far away from the levy, everything is fine.
When I get closer in and I see a large amount of bots and the levy, it slows down.
When I get in close and only see the levy and some bots its fine.

Just turn your LOD settings down.

I am so underappreciated.

Leviathan has a special shader effect. My exact solution won't work for you (DX9 -> DX8), since you clearly use OpenGL. However, the alternatives of a) disabling shaders, or b) switching to High texture detail, probably will.

Kills framerates on my Mac too. Even at the lowest setting. Blah. Maybe if it was moved to an empty sector like the old queens it might be okay. But then that would ruin the whole purpose of them mining the whole area. Ughhh...

What are you talking about Arolte?
It IS in an empty sector.
The roids are MTO (made to order).
Special edition levy roids.

Comes w/ the package!

There has got to be a better way... the levy nukes my framerate as well... those roids too.

It's hard to tell whether it's the bots or asteroids that are causing the slowness. I'm leaning more towards the presence of bots. The whole hive idea looks cool and all visually, but it really is a performance killer. I don't know what to suggest besides maybe exploring the idea of either removing some bots or lowering the poly count on the models. Even on the lowest setting it's unbearably slow.
