The loading time for stations has been gradually getting intolerably long for me. Sometimes, now, I have to wait 30 seconds just to be able to launch again. (My ping is 76.)
Perhaps the dozens and dozens of news articles might have something to do with this? Do we really need to load ALL of the news stories before being allowed to do anything else?

Maybe if news articles were archived after, say, 3 days. That way only the most recent would show up/be loaded, and you'd need to click an "Archives" button to see the other 9 million.

Maybe you got a lot of junk sitting around in all the stations that's affecting your loading times?

I sold off all my junk. I own a total of around 40 widgets galaxy-wide.
I owned over 800 widgets before then and my station load times weren't this bad.
