Odd Pinwheel Shapes in space?
Has anyone noticed these odd pinwheel shapes ingame? For the backgrounds? Or is it just a screen glitch for me? I'm running a stock iMac G5 with nVidia GeForce FX 5200 64 MB card. I got these odd shapes when I set my "Background Detail" to LOW. Notice the "2" in the second shot? Wierd.

So I'm NOT insane. Yes, I've seen the D14 one and a number of other crazy things (I think there's one in L2 too)
im not sure, but that looks like where the skybox joins together.
Is that with texture compression turned on or off?
Yeah, tram I was thinking it was a bug, but I had NEVER seen these before. I usually run with the same settings, and I hadn't changed them from the 1.2.3.3 update, so.. hrm.
Texture compression OFF. It goes away when I turn up the background resolution to Medium or higher, so I was thinking that it was some odd "skybox" mapping thing, but look at the Pelatus one. There's DEFINITELY a #2 in there. What the hell?
The stars seem to continue through the field, so at first glance it doesn't APPEAR to be a texture mapping bug on the "skybox". But what do I know?

Well, if someone finds one with a 4, we'll know we can blame Michael.
Actually, did you upgrade your video driver recently? When I last upgraded my video drivers, it made the skybox textures not match up correctly. Not the funky pinwheels you're getting, but just empty black lines around the edges of the skybox textures, where they don't meet like they're supposed to. In my case, it only happens when I run at 1280x1024, when I drop it to a lower resolution it's normal.

This happens in linux sometimes with 5xxx series nvidia drivers if you switch to a vt and then back to X.
Nope. I have not upgraded anything, I've been cancelling the normal system upgrades (except for the security one, recently). In fact, I'm still at 10.3.8 at home since I upgraded to 10.3.9 at work and had a LOT of bugginess.
As far as I know I'm running the same system as I was when 1.2.3.3 was out. Oh well. I'll confirm tonight and re-post what settings I have to see if anyone else can replicate this.
Oh, with roguelazer's experience I think this is probably just a screen rendering glitch. So, FM I think this should be moved to BUGS. TYVM.

Heh, when I do that, X crashes hard. So I just stay in X when I have OpenGL applications running.

What do you mean Beo? (I mean the "If there's a 4 its michael's fault")
When i saw this I had all graphics' at low setting when I turned the game on, but then when I switched them to high it didn't work. And again when I put them back to low it still didn't show up.

Michael is momerath42. We've got a 2, if we find a 4, we can make 42 & assign the blame. ;-)

This is a very old um...feature.
Do a search for strange, skybox, swirls, pinwheels, etc...
You'll find hundreds of posts about it as well as Ray's and Andy's explanations.
