Vendetta Wiki down?

This is pretty fsking childish if you ask me.
What was I thinking asking SF to host the community sites..I should have seen something like this coming a mile away. Grow up, steve, and realise that yeah, we'll be able to do just fine without you. All you're really doing is showing how immature you are, and making a WHOLE lot of wasted effort on Theo's part. As far as 'the way you were treated in #vendetta' all I've seen is that you got your ops taken away...and you're just proving that you did not have the maturity and self control required to earn it to begin with. I'm really dissapointed in you. You're one of the higher-profile members of the community (still) and this is not an example people should be seeing. If you've got personal problems, bring them out in the open, dont be an asshole and take away a public service that people have put MUCH effort into.

OK, using obscenities is most definitely not going to help here. If SF no longer desires to host the wiki, there's nothing we can do about that, that is totally up to SF. The one thing that I would like to address to StarFreeze is that I for one would very much appreciate it if you gave us a copy of the wiki backup before deleting it.

Yay I feel special. I got a personalized message from vo-gate. And yes I can still check out vo-gate.com through proxys

------------

(Someone kind enough, please relay this message to mr, damicatz) Dear Mr. damicatz, the only IP address that was banned from my servers recently was because the user on the ip address managed to waste more than half of gig of bandwidth. If you want me to unban you as there are a few IP addresses banned(some from microsoft bots), email me with the last 2 numbers in your ip address and I'll be glad to unban you.

Dear Mr. Roguelazer, New low eh? Remeber one thing here, I am paying for this server thus I can control the content on it as I see fit. You just want to push me farther and farther so I delete the entire backup. Keep pushing your luck.

Dear Mr. Pyro, Maybe you should ask around in #vendetta on what happen before I left. Hell I bet if you were treated like I was for so long you would leave too. But see, I'm bringing something with me unless...well that info is below.

Mmm hmm. SF, just reply here. It's easier. Anywho, I don't give half a damn what happened to you in #vendetta. If you're ending someone's service, it's common courtesy to give them a bit of notice and send them the backup files, so they can move the site. What did SL do to you?

FM could you please move this thread elsewhere (Community Project)? We had the sad info that the mediawiki is down; the rest is rather personal stuff that is not of general interest.

In Defense of SF, it IS his webspace and he can do what he wishes with it within the Terms of Agreement of his webhosting provider.

With that said, in my opinion if you host a community site like this and it goes down expect to hear about it from others. If you close the site because you are upset about the communities reaction or whatever, you need to expect that from users of a community site. Hosting a community site is usually a thankless job, with only a small part of the community actually thanking you. It goes with the territory.

I agree that pulling the site down the way you did is a bit immature, however like I stated at the begining of this post, it's his space he can do whatever he wishes. I'm sorry for all of those that helped with the wiki on his webspace, and got their work trashed, misplaced, or whatever.

The best thing to do is keep the childish games out of these forums and move on, the quicker the better for everyone.

I only wish the why of it was more apparent. Silently pulling the plug without any explanation beyond, "I can do whatever I want" is just weird... then deleting the entire thing? What?

Par for the course with this sort of thing, I guess. I wonder if we'll ever know the exact reason why he had this little fit.

I dunno if my post got deleted or if it was a side effect of posting at the same time as the thread was getting moved, but just in case it was a side effect of thread movement, here it is again. If not, sorry.

Knowing what I know about #vendetta in general, GO STARFREEZE GO!
Hells yeah.
Woot!

Damicatz:
Two points.
One: how the hell could reading the messageboards have anything to do with your IP being banned? Do you see an IP next to my name? Does SF have magic xray vision or something?
Two: sounds like a newb attention whore.

"Knowing what I know about #vendetta in general, GO STARFREEZE GO!"

How does whatever happened in #vendetta justify this? Someone get me the logs, dammit.

I have unlimited bandwidth, id be willing to throw you a slice o space and mysql access.

Just an offer if you ever need it.

*edit* whilst unlimited, its throttled to a max throughput of 2mb's

A.I don't know what went on in #vendetta. Could someone fill me in?

B.It's fairly easy to ascertin my IP from server logs. It seems to be unblocked now but earlier I was getting connection refused, something that wasn't happening when using a proxy, which made me think perhaps SF blocked me through iptables.

Although the bandwidth and space is owned by StarFreeze, the information within is not necessarily so (as per the MediaWiki license) as I understand it. Unless this was otherwise changed prior to the indicents of the past few days, a content provider cannot horde/steal or 'privately fork' (which can be understood as to the current situation) the pariticular information that has been GPL'd (which I believe is the default information-license pertaining to MediaWiki distributions.

Concluding, whilst StarFreeze has rights to what content is provided, he does not have rights to withhold content owned by others. Content he made himself is still his, but whatever isn't his, he can't keep (without consent, of course) without violating copyright law.

Gararraraghrhyhrhgrhy I spent so much time migrating the old syntax to the new syntax....

Grr, StarFreeze, grr! I'd like to use more forceful terms, but I won't.
