osx here and using sanctioned skins from the finished skin thread and several from the wiki all seem to have the same problem of weird whiteouts
well, mine should definitely work (other than that the flight assist powerbar is missing and some minor stuff is backwards.)
Pre multiplied alpha. And most of the ones on the wiki were up to date eight months ago.
Try using any old graphical editor on the png files and converting them to pre multiplied alpha. That should get rid of the white blocks.

'newblue' also works, with the same FA powerbar missing but nothing is backwards (afaik).
Are you sure you didn't alter any of the files?
Also, at what resolution are you running VO?

no alterations and running med-high resolution
Which skin are you using and where did you get it?
All the skins have evolved and hence, you need to have the latest.

Hey, is that first link still good, or is there another more current version I need? I was about to start modding a skin for SCAR...
The first link is still good.
So we have it in this thread (where it belongs)... Ray's droppngconvert programs can be found here (Mac) and here (Windows).
Ok, question... when you say to keep the same dimensions, are you referring to the actual size of the image or just the aspect ratio? Some of the HUD elements seem small... really small, such that I couldn't effectively mofidy them and still have a clean, crisp image in-game. (most notably, the aiming reticle and target directional indicator)
EDIT: ok, so they scale... but not sure about distortion.

Two Skin-Related Questions:
1) is there a way to alter the color of HUD text? (i.e., the distance, speed and charge text)
2) if there is and it's through a config file, is there a way to make /*comments*/ in the config file?

Sorry it took so long to answer, Cunjo but my comp was fried.
(Last post first...)
1. No, not at this time. Unless there is a lua work-around that I don't know and which would be ill-advised to use unless Ray or Andy released it.
2. Moot. But I'm sure there is a way to make comments in config.ini. I don't know what syntax it would need though. Experiment.

Yes, by dimensions, we mean aspect ratio. Ray posted a primer as to where some hud elements stretch but those are the chat and other boxes and he indicates at which pixels they stretch. There is no stretching to the instrumentation so, as long as you keep the proper aspect ratio, you can work with as large a file as you like and VO will scale it. I've noticed with scaling though, you lose WYSIWYG.

I believe you can make comments in both the wgaf.cfg and config.ini files by prepending a line with a #, like this:
#omg comment 1
#wtf comment 2
#ORLY comment 3?
# also, you can put whitespace between the # and the comment.

How about an updated version of the "overview" images for the skins? You know, showing where the files actually GO.
'cause I'm lazy.

I noticed a dev? posted a screenshot, with the filenames and such for all the skin elements as well as transparencies and such. My question is since the client has been updated, the image hasnt' been updated. I see in several plugins a LOT of images, and many are not used, apparently.
What is the new file list, and such? I was looking at insurrection's folder of images for ideas, but I'm not sure which images are used and which ones are depreciated, or anything.
Could someone make a nice screenie with *every* hud element displayed, updated to newest VO version, so perhaps I can clean out the unused images in the various skin folders I have, and see what is going on so I can check out making my own? the skin i gnerally use is insurrection, and its good, but not quite what I'd do if I could make heads or tails of it and make my own :P

Where can I get a copy of the exact original hud? I am making a "Sniper Parallax" hud first, with lead-in lines for the rail gun. Your help is appreciated.
The skin.zip package in the first post of this thread has it!
That would be a good place to look. 8]
ummm.. moving right along.. nothing to see here..

Are the assets linked in this thread current?
yea the skin.zip file is currently used ingame, there are quite a few useless files in there the game doesn't use at all anymore and there might be a few files missing like the nav targets/cursors.
