https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conspiracy_theory

According to Florida State University professor Lance deHaven-Smith's 2013 book Conspiracy Theory in America, the phrase conspiracy theory was deployed in the 1960s by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to discredit John F. Kennedy assassination conspiracy theories.

Yes spam cancer because you don't have any actual response.

Well, since I guess this thread just doesn't want to stay on topic, what are the current status and plans regarding the ACA? I don't follow politics closely since it tends to just piss me off. Last I heard the Republicans managed to get some sort of replacement through the House, but the Senate was still up in the air. I take it that flopped?

2 year stall, they couldn't get it passed because it was too close to obamacare so now they are going to let what is left of ACA burn to the ground and do a full repeal.

DJT already EO'd the penalty away.

Hopefully people will figure out you don't need health insurance for health care.

Oh, and now that the border is secure we won't have 40million+ foreign citizens coming and abusing the system.

"Hopefully people will figure out you don't need health insurance for health care."

Please explain.

It's easy:
just set up an LLC -> declare your body to be an asset of that LLC -> run up medical bills on the company credit card -> declare your LLC bankrupt -> sell your body to your new LLC that you just set up -> repeat.

DUH. WHY ARE YOU SO AFRAID OF CAPITALISM, WHISTLER?

Criminal.

@Whistler:

The conservative thinking is that instead of paying an insurance company to essentially save money for you (and then refuse to give it back when you actually need the service you've paid them for), you just save up your own money while you're young and healthy so that when you get hurt or sick later you can pull from those savings to pay the bills. At most you get some cheap catastrophic insurance to cover the really absurd medical bills so you don't end up bankrupt, and you cover the lesser things like broken arms and such out of pocket. The ones who aren't extremely anti government also support some tax breaks on health savings accounts to make saving for medical purposes easier. And by cutting out insurance companies, you also force the medical industry to reign in their prices somewhat.

Of course, some people don't have enough income to save up their money like that. To the conservative, that's because those people consistently make bad decisions, so they should learn from their mistakes and make better decisions, otherwise they'll just have to suffer the consequences. Conservatives are not anti-poor, remember; they're anti-lazy and anti-stupid. They don't really have a problem with the idea that somebody who just happens to be born dumb will have to struggle to get anywhere in life. They prefer to pretend that everybody is equal, so anybody who under-performs is just an asshole.

Thanks I wouldn't have said it so nicely.

So, the takeaway is that blaqk thinks that the mentally handicapped, the disabled, and single moms struggling in poverty are lazy and greedy assholes who don't deserve a break.

Pretty much.

I am a healthcare provider in a major metropolitan area. There are lots of poor people here. Currently some are insured through Medicare, Medicaid, or Obamacare. Some have not even had the wherewithal to get that together, so they end up in our emergency department. That's accessing health care in the most expensive manner possible. Those people have no means to pay, and the cost is written off as charity care. This results in tax breaks for the provider - which we all pay for. We also all pay in the form of higher overall cost.

Assuming that we do not wish to have the dead and dying laying about, how would you propose to care for these people?

The first part of today's pod save america episode is a brief overview of the recent history of the ACA repeal attempts. Listener beware: this is a podcast run by former UBAMA staffers, so it's probably going to be grating at some point, regardless of your political leanings.

Amazing. I never expected this level of maturity from him.

The ACA will eventually crumble without adjustments that would be necessary for any complex system, but the reports of it being bad or failing imminently are exaggerations. The ACA is working well and certainly does not need to be repealed immediately, leaving people uninsured. Replacement is also a waste, as much of the law is sound. Some tweaks are definitely needed now that we've seen how insurance companies, corporations and individuals have responded to the law, but that's to be expected. I believe that the real issue is that "Obamacare" is offensive to people who did not like Obama and that repeal is an attempt to expunge his influence.
