Life... is dead?

Some people like it. Some people don't. It's more of a personal preference. Bolt-action rifles typically tend to jam less than semi-automatic rifles. It's also easier to keep track of the number of rounds you have with bolt-action rifles. It's that issue of whether you want to have more control over your rifle or not.

Honestly though, you really don't need semi-automatic fire on a sniper rifle. Snipers are supposed to be concealed from their enemies, so the danger of having to reload in time is moot. You'll also have to wait for a go-code before you can engage targets anyway, so you're not going to be frantically picking off multiple targets like the riflemen have to. In other words you're just working as support.

So really... it doesn't matter if you choose bolt-action or semi-automatic. Both get the job done.

Guys, every .50 cal rifle that i've seen (with the exception of the mod for AR-15s) have the conncussion channels. No big deal.

As for bolt action compaired to semi-auto, bolt action gives you superior accuracy to a certain extent. When you pull the trigger on the semi auto, the reciver moves. When you pull the trigger on a bolt action, the bolt stays in place.

Also, bolt action rifles are easier to clean than semi autos. I recently cleaned an old .22 semi auto rifle to take to a gun show and sell, and damn.. I make a habit of cleaning my guns as best i can after i finish, but this thing was nasty. Besides, you have to take it apart to get to everything that needs cleaning, while on a bolt action you can just pop the bolt out, no other disasemly required.

As for jamming, yes. I have only seen 1 jam in my life out of all the times i've shot all of my the bolt action rifles i have, and that was due to crappy ammo. The only semi auto i had (recently traded in for a Marlin .22 mag) jammed quite often.

And pyro, you can have a magazine on a bolt action rifle.

I have a magazine on my Remington 700....

Marlin .22 Mag, good gun. I have one with the mid-heavy-weight barrel (not the heaviest, but a step up from the standard). Very nice.

I've only had my R700 jam once, and that was because of ammo, too.

yeah, i donno if we have a bull barrel on the marlin .22 mag, but i got 1 on my marlin .22, which i'm debating if i should drill it out to a .22 mag. damn good .22 though, and if i leave it as a .22, i'll have hte best of both rounds.

For deer hunting i got a RugerModel 77 model II chambered for .270. Not a real magazine on it, sorta a built in thing, but it's pretty close.

Not much kick pad on it though, i'm good for around 4 shots, then i start flinching. But i shouldn't need to take more than 1.

Sam, I my R799KLH is a .270 as well. Do you use 130 or 150 gr rounds? I'd suggest 130. 150 makes for great bragging, but there's no real difference.

Go out to the range and shoot off 40 rounds, then you have permission to flinch. :-D Seriously, hold the gun in tight and you shouldn't be sore at all.

yeah, i know to hold it tight and all, it's just i have little padding in the way of fat or muscle on my sholder. And i need to get back to the range one of these days. i just got a .17 i need to sight in. sweet gun

I'm shooting 130 gr Remington core-loct rounds with teh .270.

17 grain ballistic tips out of the .17

Savage makes a good .17, the trigger's a bit sucky, but it's a fun gun to shoot.
