Your Soul for a Game

Gamestation, a British online video game retailer, recently gained ownership of about 7,500 shoppers' souls by inserting a clause in its terms and conditions.

The 'immortal soul' clause read:
By placing an order via this Web site on the first day of the fourth month of the year 2010 Anno Domini, you agree to grant Us a non transferable option to claim, for now and for ever more, your immortal soul. Should We wish to exercise this option, you agree to surrender your immortal soul, and any claim you may have on it, within 5 (five) working days of receiving written notification from gamesation.co.uk or one of its duly authorized minions.

The clause even contained an option to opt out, and Gamestation rewarded attentive customers with an $8 gift certificate for catching it. Gamestation says about 88-percent of the people who purchased from the site on April 1st 'lost their souls.' The clause was obviously an April Fool's Day joke, but it confirms that most people don't read terms and conditions.

Irritating peytros is predictable. Move on if you've seen it already instead of telling us. (Yes, I know my reaction is predictable, but seriously, peytros, you're an idiot.)

Shit Chaos, just stop responding to him. You get suckered for peytros' trolling worse than an inbred Alaskan watching Fox

but proffe chaos completes me

I wouldn't call peytros a troll. troll-ish. maybe. standing far away with one eye closed.

genka, and maybe ananzi, are the only real trolls I have seen on these forums.

The rest are just people with issues trying to make others feel bad.

Yeah, T, and you don't have to worry about them unless you say their names 3 times into a mirror.

I always saw myself as a person with issues trying to make others feel bad, rather than as a troll...

Then again, what's the difference anyway?

an inbred Alaskan

Redundant much?

Tosh: that I enjoy making certain others "feel bad" is self-evident, but I'm unclear on how you're so sure I have "issues." Did you get a degree in internet psychiatry of which I am unaware?
Apr 21, 2010 toshiro link
Lecter, if someone enjoys making others feel bad, that is an issue in its own right.
Apr 21, 2010 peytros link
I wouldn't say I enjoy making people feel bad. It's more just like a job that has to be done.

Lecter, if someone enjoys making others feel bad, that is an issue in its own right.

And again I ask when you got your medical degree. Consider, if you will, the following assertion: everyone, to some extent and in some context, gets a degree of satisfaction from causing others some sort of mental or physical pain/shame/humiliation.

You disagree?

You're a liar. Or else you're trying worm out with the 'well, they may enjoy seeing others justly suffer, but they'd never enjoy causing just suffering themselves' claim, in which case you're just arguing that there's an especially spineless category of people out there that doesn't quite fit my rule. You really got me there!

You agree, but don't like my particular lines of demarcation about when it's permissible to relish another's discomfort?

Well then, feel free to whine about your tiny pink feelings regarding my conduct. But to couch your silly moral opprobrium in terms like "an issue in its own right" is to give your worthlessly subjective opinion a veneer of objectivity that ill-becomes it.

Assumption is the mother of all fuck-ups.

You assume too much. Not to mention that you fall prey to the same things you rail against.

Go on! It's fun!
Apr 21, 2010 Dr. Lecter link
And vague assertions, utterly untied to the purported weaknesses in another's argument, are the only progeny of fuck-ups like yourself.

Ta.

So what we've learned today, girls and boys:

Assumption is the mother of all fuck-ups who make vague assertions.

and the mother of idiots is always pregnant.

Lecter, you like to read so much into my posts, it's interesting that you don't do it with my retorts.

Bad form, Miss Chase. Bad form.
