No, the problem with democracies is their tendency towards letting the mouthbreathers vote. For all its unnecessary exclusion of meritorious persons from the body politic, you'd better believe that Athens did not allow hoi polloi to vote themselves a nicer TV directly from the public treasury (and indirectly from the efforts of their betters).

yea it becomes a game of "you guys suck", "no you guys suck" without even really discussing much of anything else. kinda like an elementry school food fight, nobody knows why their fighting, their just slinging crap at everybody else.

oh, and doc, a democracy or democratic republic only lasts until the voters realize they can vote themselves more money from the treasury.
