Star Trek (spoilers)

New drinking game: Everyone takes a shot when Spock shows emotion. Sure to get everyone drunk.

I'm not going to see it precisely because, as corny as old Star trek is, it's Star Trek. This is not. Had it had another name and tried it's own IP, then it'd be a standard fun to watch summer action flick.

And DS9 was the best, by far. More gritty and realistic than the rest of the line.

Um... DS9 was the one I had the least patience with. Star Trek is about exploring and space adventure, and you can't explore in a station, so it quickly became little more than a soap opera in space. They tried to fix this by adding the Defiant, which helped, and the war at the end was epic, but if I hadn't been already a hard-core Trekkie when it ran (something I am not anymore, though I still occasionally enjoy Star Trek), I would have tuned out quickly. TOS is still the best, because of the character chemistry, and late TNG is also great, post killing off Kes Voyager is also good, mostly because Janeway was an awesome captain.

momerath42's review is about the most fair concise review I've seen, and I agree 100%. I'd say it fits right in the middle as far as Trek films go. And moldy, the show really did need a reset, and I have no problem calling this one Star Trek. Everything post First Contact has sucked. And break, thank goodness for Red Box. It's so nice that I can watch movies I'm skeptical of and if I can't finish it I'm only out $1, and I watched it in the comfort of my own home theater.

Toshiro, did you see Terminator yet? I thought it was even worse than T3. I was just getting into Sarah Connor Chronicles when they had that awful plot twist at the end of the season finale, and now instead of being pissed that Fox is canceling another show I like, I'm pissed that idiot writers made a show I like worth canceling. Good thing they're keeping Dollhouse for at least one more season, that show kicks ass. Turns out I'm not a Terminator fan after all, just a Terminator 2 fan. Seriously, that's one of the best films of all time.

I'm going to see Terminator: Salvation tomorrow (curse European movie launch delays). I disliked T3 as well, mostly because it lacked the style of the previous movies/Cameron's direction. I'm somewhat doubtful of this installment after watching the trailers, but perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Since I am not really into US TV series, for reasons largely unknown to me (most likely because there are no serious animated shows, but I dunno), I haven't gotten into the Sarah Connor Chronicles at all, and judging by your review, I am even more reluctant to do so :) Maybe it'll cross my path at some point in the future.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised. Even though there was not much 'oomph' to the movie (too predictable) and I spotted some silly mistakes, I enjoyed watching the movie. Let's see how the next 2 turn out.

This could also be due to a few gin&tonics prior to watching the movie. Your pick.

Well, I had mixed feelings about Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles before, since it had a rocky start and the episodes seemed to vary between stagnant, silly and brilliant, but I think the good episodes were frequent enough and the brilliant ones good enough that I'm glad I stuck with the show. But I can't say your life will be emptier for not watching it. I say, stick with T2, watch TSC if you'd like, T1 is fun for nostalgia but not that great, T3 sucks big time, and Salvation is even worse.

I'm excited for the next season of The Venture Bros., and Dollhouse. Also, I just watched "Up" a couple days ago, and it was amazing. Not a movie to miss. Probably the best movie I've seen this year.

I forgot about this: Some things in the movie made me chuckle, for instance the opening credits. I'm not savvy enough to have seen if they all reference a specific programming language (plus the style was sometimes bad for legibility), but it was fun.

Saw it yesterday, twas nice, I liked it.

Though there were a few things that bothered me, like how Earth or Vulcan didnt have any defenses. Also why is it that the captain and first officers go on the dangerous missions, dont they have special assault teams on board? They even sent their freaking pilot in to fight just because he was the only one "trained"(fencing) in hand-to-hand combat. Oh, and why didnt they burn up when entering the atmosphere in the sky diving part.

Also saw T4, it was ok, but the ending just made me rage. So, basically nothing changed in the war and the resistance just managed to destroy some shit facility. Also the T-800 was way too strong.
Then there was the heart transplant thing the writer pulled out of his ass: "Lets just do the transplant guys! Fuck compatibility issues! Also nevermind doing the operation outdoors, Im sure its still hygienic, any flies step inside we'll just blow them away. Special equipment you say? Fuck you, Im sure we have a CPB machine laying around! Dont worry guys! He'll make it, he got skewered through the chest with a big steel rod but he still survived, because he's JOHN FUCKING CONNOR!!"

Thought Star Trek was pretty good. Of course I never really watched any old stuff (just saw original movies 2 and 6), but as a relatively new guy coming in, it was definitely entertaining. Although even with my limited knowledge, Spock and Uhura just seemed wrong.

And break19 are you joking? In San Diego, CA, it costs $14 to go to an IMAX movie in the pimp-ass nice-as-shit theater in a good part of town. I'm pretty sure that represents the high end of tickets... so... $20? Haha, okay. And you know you don't have to buy popcorn etc right?

Well said, Shadoen! Apparently the plan was for John to die, and they keep his image alive by grafting his entire skin onto the "good" terminator's robot body, but that got leaked so they changed it to something almost as stupid. But that was just rotten icing on a spoiled cake. When the movie is so boring (because, as you say, nothing of importance happened) that when John Connor gets impaled through the chest and you experience no emotional reaction, you know the movie failed. It depended way too much on people already hero worshipping John, who has become way bigger than he should be to become practically a Christ symbol (I think the producers actually said so), and then they give the audience no reason to like or respect him other than his name. Stupid, stupid, stupid, annoying, stupid.

Starpwn: Mira Mesa Edwards?

Hahaha, Shadoen, that had infinitely more entertainment value than the actual Terminator: Salvation movie did.

Maybe you'd get a group rate or something.

Wait, there's more than two people that go to that theater!??

Are you actually in Mira Mesa? I live in Carmel Valley, but the local theater is absolute crap (Ultra Star Highlands, uncomfortable seats, less selection, etc), so it's usually worth the extra 15 minutes and couple dollars to hit up the Regal
