I lol'd.
Awesome! Usually that kind of thing is lame, but that was hilarious!
Ironically, I'd just been having a discussion with someone about how since abandonware is defined as "no support for two (or more) years", all Windows operating systems qualified and should be free.
Yay for school educational licenses, though... if I actually decided I wanted Vista, I'd only have to pay $10 for the Ultimate edition, which is just about as much as I'd be willing to pay anyway.

Amen to that... yet still only worth half as much as XP, IMO.

I paid $5 to get both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of XP Professional last year, and I've only used the 32-bit version. Vista is only $10 because it's on a DVD instead of a CD like XP was.
I got it "free" on a new computer. I don't have all those issues, but it is maddening that there are STILL programs that I use that have yet to be patched to Vista. Somebody's not playing well with others.
Ubuntu FTW
What is this Vista thing you're talking about?
Malware...from Microsoft
This is so true... so true...
MACS RULE. Go anything but windows!

To be fair, Vista is a bit more secure than XP.
It cracks me up when Windows users tell me how much they hate Macs, but every new version of Windows tries harder and harder to look like MacOS.
Bill Gates uses macs anyways...
he made windows for the lulz.

I think I was laughing hardest when they were demoing the xbox 360 development/launch titles on Macs.

Umm, out of the box, sure...
Except anyone who's running XP out of the box at this point without 3rd party security probably deserves to crash and burn. At least XP is still compatible with all the 3rd party apps that make it more secure than Vista.

i never used a third party virus protector, and the only security i used was spybot. I never had a problem with XP. what was i doing wrong?
I was replying to Miharu's post. My statement was factual. I wouldn't advise anyone to run either XP or Vista without a 3rd party security suite.
epadafunk: you may have been lucky, or maybe you don't venture into the shady world of porn, wares, hacks, "free" downloads come-ons, and obscure sites well off the beaten path.
Or maybe your computer is a zombie slave after hours and you just don't know about it.
