"They have more than one episode that feel like Galaxy Quest, except it's the regular actors making fun of themselves and their show."

Like Wormhole Xtreme and the 200th episode? :P

I like both versions of Stargate (SG1/Atlantis, the movie wasn't as good, but it was a good premise to work off of), and I like Battlestar as well.

"[RDA] played the BEST laid-back, lackluster commander."

... ya think?

I've seen all the star trek series as well as stargrate sg-1/atlantis and BSG. BSG is my favorite of the three at the moment.

I have only one suggestion. Watch Babylon 5 :)
The first season kind of sucks and you have to struggle through it to get into the show but it really starts to pick up at the end of the second season and goes into epic mode in season 3 and 4, seems a bit stretched at season 5 though. But the Shadow War in season 3-4 and the Earth rebellion at the end of season 4 are truly "epic" and you won't see space battles like these very often.
The show is extremely well written and everything just seems to fit together so well. I would recommend Babylon 5 over all the others :)

NOTE: This of course is biased and mostly just my opinion. I think BSG is awesome and being only into their 3rd season is a good deal shorter than the 5 seasons of 22 episodes of Babylon 5 so you may want to watch BSG instead just for that reason.

BSG is awesome, Bab5 is awesomer ;)

I've always wondered about Babylon 5. It never seemed to play regularly enough to catch on to the characters and overall plot. If you give it that strong a recommendation, I'm going to try it.

And yes...I don't know about you, but wormhole extreme made me laugh so hard that I'm surprised I didn't wet my pants.
