Got mine. Will probably have it finished soon. Wanna race?
heh, you're one of those freaks that stood in line for a midnight copy arent you!?!??
My copy will arrive in about 2 hours, shipped directly from barnes&noble.com, where my wife will promptly steal it because i'm at work. I'll be lucky to see it before tuesday. :P

And I'll have it finished, before you OR your wife. ;-)

Probably got mine, ordered it from amazon, but I'm away in Vermont for the weekend.
I'll go buy mine tomorrow morning. Considering the proliferation of bookstores in my area, I doubt I'll have trouble finding one in stock. If that fails, there's always umpteen WalMarts.
Just finished. Wow.
DONT TELL!!!!!!
/me goes to read more

Damn Beo- that was fast. I'd have beat you or come close if I hadn't fallen asleep at 9 this morning:)
I never really got the whole Harry Potter thing... Am I the only one who doesn't find it all that interesting?
*looks at his Milton anthology waiting to be read*

not the only one, but there arent many.
I personally find the books to be a good read, But not so good that i was about to stand in line for several hours to get a copy at midnight.. besides I had a Barnes and Noble gift card lying around with a couple of bucks left on it from christmas....
Of course UPS screwed up and sent my package to the wrong city according to the tracking info on the web, so I wont be getting my copy til monday now.. Which is just as well cause it gives me some time to finish reading "Exiles Return" by Raymond E. Feist.
Unfortunately i have a sinking suspicion based on how much book i have left and where the story is at that i'm gonna be stuck waiting for another book. This is the problem with reading authors who are still alive... you eventually catch up to where they are still working on the next book in the series. :P

Heh, I hate when that happens. And nobody writes trilogies anymore, I keep waiting to start until they've finished three books, thinking it'll be a trilogy, and then half way through the third book I realize they're not going to be finished....
I just found out that there are unauthorized enooks and audio books of the new Harry potter book. I was amaized how fast the book got online, less then 12 hours. Full story here:

I for one love the Harry Potter Seris, I picked up my copy to day at the local Barnes and Noble.
DISCLAIMER: I am not condoning pirating the book. I just thought it was an interesting story because of how fast it happened. And the above story is not a link to the download only a link to the news story. :)

You could get pirated ebook versions of HP&HBP online before the release date. Like with movies, there's usually someone inside the publishing, printing, or distributing companies who has access before the release date, and decides to put a copy out on the web.
actually I looked hard (not because I wasn't going to pay- just cuz I couldnt wait), and all the ebooks I found were fake.
I still havent finished reading it either- I came in to work to help get the hive test going, and we're just about done. You guys better appreciate it- it was hard putting it down with around a hundred pages to go.

I specifically didn't look, 'cause I didn't want the temptation. The plethora of fakes would make it tough to find a real version.
Wow... I wouldn't have done that. No way I'd have put it down that close to finishing it to go in to work. But sadly, I don't have the option of appreciating your work fully, as I am stuck at work tonight.

If it were any other job I wouldn't have. I *love* this job, though! Its not even really work! If I weren't getting paid, and didn't need to be for food and shelter, this is what I'd want to be doing with my free time:)
Plus, I was feeling a bit sad about the book being almost over and the long wait for the next one beginning. So its good to draw it out a bit:)

momerath42: after i read the article about the ebooks being online, i did look and found a full copy in less then a minitue by doing a torret search. I already bought the book so "fair use" should be ok for me to download it.
I think the author's refusal to allow the book to be leagally downloaded is crazy. they would have gotten many thousands of people who downloaded the book to get it instanly and i bet most of them would have bought the hard cover book too. People are crazy for harry potter.
Because of the earlier cap ship battle and other things i had to do i'm only on page 102 now, i might stay up and finish it tonight... I might do like momerath42 and take a couple of breaks so it lasts longer :)

Hehe, that's what rereading & overanalysing it w/ my sister is for. And also, here in the next few months there's a bunch of books coming out that I've been waiting for, so I'm going to be very happy with my reading material for a while.
The Big Over Easy : A Nursery Crime, by Jasper Fforde - July 25, 2005
Eldest (Inheritance, Book 2), by Christopher Paolini - August 23, 2005
Inside Job, by Connie Willis - August 30, 2005
A Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 4), by George R. R. Martin - November 8, 2005
A bunch of others, too.

is anyone else reminded of the serco/itani war while reading this book?
edit: also its becoming very hard not to cheat and "go to the last page of the book". i wouldn't go to the last page of the book i would just go on the internet and read a review or two
I want to read the book but i also want to know the ending.
edit: if i want to spoil anything i would use assembly language, no one could figure it our unless they really tried HARD :)
