Anyone else find it ironic that this whole thing started out with a threat to asphyxiate asphyxia?

"White Magic: I've lost my job 'cos ive been caught playing during work hours."

Ummm I really don't know what to say about that other than...ugh...unless you know ur bosses will allow you to play games NEVER ever play games. I've seen way too many people get fired for playing games or hosting servers. There is always someone watching.

My thoughts: I would take a break from vendetta...get your life back in gear and then come back.

Can we please have an option under graphics for the big teal balls to be back? those things rocked.

a1kon: lol, yeah.. just kinda noticed that ;-)

StarFreeze: It's not really a problem, i'm the i.t. manager here, and the IT director doesn't care!

As long as the MD doesn't find out thats cool, either way, with a Ctrl+Alt+F1 as soon as he walks through the door, my screen just contains a load of X garbage ;-)

Only problem is, i become bot fodder whilst he prats around pretending to KNOW something... "Cor, how do you get windows to look like that?".. "You cant"... "But whats that then"... "Thats linux"... "Can you put it on my machine?"... "No..You aren't competent enough, how about winxp? ;-p"....

hey, hey , hey don't talk down about WinXP,

as if Mandrakes Linux distribution "v9" isn't that full of baby protections neither

ehhe

and besides I hated the mount with linux, in that way windows is so easy going. you want something installed, just click the install button, something altered, just go to setup and it is altered. In linux, installing : use the script, install glibc , then install this exotic program and that program that I never even heard of, it's to get a heartinfarct from.

but yes, Linux is better if you are a competent user :D

cheers
PS: asphy, you are the manager eh, hehe, couldn't you find a position in there for me, something like junior IT-manager :D "lol".

I work in the i.t. department too...but see...I WORK actually lol...my bosses wouldn't like me playing a game esp for the fact that games are banned through the entire area.

Rene- There is a job going. Actually a few. SO if ur interested post me at starfreeze.com :)

Starfreeze - Whats worse is i/we(including Asphy) Can get away with it. But we will get caught soon enough if were not careful.
The any other thing is our productivity has dropped recently and is being noticed. So, do you think i could change my pension over to a Vendetta pension???? :).

On the whole, im seeing a doctor about my addiction. And things are getting much better. bBut slowly. I now only lose 4hrs day playing instead of 9? ( just Kiddin )

Thanks for the concern guy's. I know what i have to do - but pulling the plug out aint easy. I promise i'll be much better in 3.2!!

Good news is the firewall / router logs are being well taken care of, providing loads of condemming information about our online activities during the working day.

And this is all backed up too incase we try to fiddle the system in any way to hide our actions...

tar zc /var/log/firewall_log | /dev/null

He He! True BOFH ;-)

Stupid question, but what does your job involve

making programs in C,C++,java ??
setting up networks??

haven't got the slightest idea

and normally couldn't you just delete the logs, or just delete all the incriminating evidence, but on the other side if you do do this then it will be with maliscious prior notice, so maybe not a good idea ;)

<rant doctype="ignore_if_u_want">

Win XP sucks.

With all it's "user-friendly" gui flummies, it makes it all to easy for you average, computer illiterate, (l)user to f**k up their own system royally.

And then when us admin types come to fix it, we have to spend hours fighting our way through all these "im a computer illiterate dumbass" gui flummies to actually get to a part that dosn't have a f**king paperclip trying to explain to me, in preschool baby chatter, what a flaming ip address is.

And once it's all fixed, a reboot cocks it up with a bluescreen that forces you to fire up the "recovery (required after using it) console" that has about as much fixing potential as an os/2 bootdisk.

Windows XP? Yeah, thats about right....

Windows Xtra Pants..

</rant>

sorry, renegade hit a nerve there, our company has had 13 xp laptops come in recently. ALL of which have come back within 2 months, then back again in two months where we put win2k on em to save ourselves the trouble.

And to renegades previous thread ;-)

General dogsbody would be close.

App writing, VB for windows stuff (unfortunately). C And Perl on the linux boxen, php on the website.

General DBA (MySQL mostly).

Network maintenance (various routers, switches etc)

End support, helpdesk etc.

Usual dogsbody stuff ;-)

naturally, but I look at windows with these eyes:

if you let windows lose on it, then be happy with it's user friendlyness

and when it is screwd up, then be happy that it only costed you all the data present on the harddrive "ehhe"

what I mean with it, kiss your both hands that windows is there because you would have a lot of work for just telling people how they should have to install things on linux. So in really short terms, linux = experienced users, windows = noobies and the lazy people who don't care if they lose all the data on their harddrive :D

Mac= people that don't want there shit to brake and don't mind paying an extra buck for it, no really i dropped my ibook on concrete, THUNk, roll, THUNk, roll a bit more, then THUNK, only problem was some chipped plastic and all the crumbs came out of my keyboard =), and i had to restart, damnit!

Macs are cool, I like OS/X, a lot and i'd really like to sport one of those 17" powerbooks.

Only problem is, they cost far too much (well, for my budget anyway) so im going to have to remain content with commodity x86 hardware and Linux.

Which isn't a problem, I like linux more. Infact, it's almost pointless me getting a mac, since I'd only wipe os/x and put linux on it anyway!

Hmm...

.. that was a pointless reply.
