it's funny that pirates were the ones complaining, not the traders.
Jun 07, 2004 AlienB link
Yeah actually. Most Itani are pretty happy with the INM. Griefers and pirates are the ones that complain. (or prod their n00bs to)
Jun 08, 2004 Arolte link
On the contrary INM's lack of coordination has made the lives of pirates much easier. What bothers me is how INM has done very little to back up their claims of being an anti-pirate or n00b-protecting clan. They rant on and on about having national pride and protecting Itani nation, yet they've been more focused on personal gainings. I've openly taunted the INM by pirating several Itani traders and I've had little to no resistance from any of the INM members that were on at the time. I don't think there could be a clearer way of demonstrating what the problem is here.

Arolte,

Factionstanding messes with everything you should know this ...

And some people contineously abuse it...

If I had a /operkill for everytime somebody walzes into 4 and starts massacring everybody in it just because they feel like it or because they hate Itani "roleplaying ..." I would have been numero uno in pks. Not to mention that the nation defense bots are always deactivated, and nobody inside the sector has a clue that they need to message them to activate them nor that their isnt a bind possible to activate them since their names are randomly generated.

So please stop your incesant badgering, since the only thing you do is annoying people. And what goes around comes around ...

My point stands, we wont stay small, we wont stay insignificant and we sure as hell wont stay non-loved.

Fear us when we are loved throughout the universe, the day of reckoning will come at that time.

EDIT: removed, got the idea in here though :D

Renegade, sorry but when you have a guild that drives out the vets, the TRUE leaders of the guild are inactive so those who have no idea what the purpose of the guild is taking over, and a 15 year old kid who has complete control over the website and the forums of said guild on a power trip, that's a recipe for disaster and a soon to be dead guild.
Jun 08, 2004 Renegade ++RIP++ link
well the best way to stop his power trip is by ignoring him...

But please keep this thread as an informative message and not as a bitching thread as it seemed that it was heading towards.

cheers

I'm not out to annoy anyone. I'm just explaining you why some people feel so negative towards the INM. I haven't pointed any fingers at anyone specifically so I don't see how this warrants as flamebait. Maybe I'm not typing what you want to see, but either way there's some truth to it. Put aside your hatred and be open more open towards other viewpoints for a second.

>My point stands, we wont stay small, we wont stay insignificant and we sure as hell

Well I wish you the best of luck. Just don't be surprised if nothing changes at this rate. I was merely offering some advice to make it a better guild.

I should probably also note that the final game will eventually fix many of these exploits and will provide a harsher penalty for doing things that you're not supposed to (i.e. killing n00b buses). As a guild you could try to stop "griefers" in the test version, but later on it'll be more along the lines of an anti-pirate guild that will need to patrol thousands of sectors in hopes finding pirates to stop. Not an easy task by any means. Of course not to discourage you or anything but your guild's agenda may need a little revision because of it.

Or maybe have a system that attaches them to convoys. Maybe schedule convoys on set trade routes.. That'd add a lot, say potential for higher profits by going off-route, but more pirate danger..
Jun 08, 2004 roguelazer link
Guys, you can ignore furball's posts. They're because he doesn't like the fact that I have the website and forum. That's, well, pretty much it. If anyone else disagrees with that, well, you'll note that I've been the only poster to his INM site for a month or so. As for forum control, well, my one moderation (splitting a topic) must have been ground breaking, eh? But you're getting me off-topic, aren't ya? Oh well, this'll be locked as soon as FM returns from his vacation or wherever he is.

PS: Rene, you already posted your PM Button thing in Suggestions, can you edit the post and remove it from here? thanks in advance.

Wh..at..

Rogue, I don't know what crack you're on. It's not "my" site, I just host it. Grow the hell up already...ffs...

I think that some folks here need a time out...
Jun 09, 2004 Pyroman_Ace link
guys, this was an honest thread until personal feelings came to play. Please get it back on track or FM will lock it.
Jun 09, 2004 roguelazer link
Actually, a1k0n said he was gonna lock it yesterday. That's why I made that post. However, he seems to be a little slow with the magic lock button.
Jun 09, 2004 AlienB link
Um...right...it's more of "rogue's obsessive about his 'users'"

I don't think he knows that Durgia and Furball were the ones that made the site, I just host it... his maniacal grabs at power were annoying me, so I left...

And what the heck rogue, I've been supportive of the INM in this thread...it's clear where your intentions lie..

Soooooooooooo!
Any idea what devs are going to do to make policing all those new sectors easier?
Jun 09, 2004 Pyroman_Ace link
Piro, and no offense to the Devs, but they can't police the sectors we have NOW!

Policing some 7000 sectors is logistically impossible at the moment. Although, I would suggest the invention of a Guide program (an automated one) for monitoring some places in addition to the Live Guides.

I think that we're going to see a massive burst of system claiming after the new galaxies introduction and that may or maynot be a good thing.

"I think that we're going to see a massive burst of system claiming after the new galaxies introduction and that may or maynot be a good thing."

-It'll be a great thing. We'll have a reason to fight for once! I'm tired of this: "YAR! I be a pirate!" crap. A real pirate pirates for profit.
Jun 09, 2004 Arolte link
Not a reply for anyone in particular, but before we get into discussions about giving "police factions" any power...

If the intention behind this policing is to save newbies, I think it's already a given that killing newbies will carry harsher penalties as the game becomes more finalized. If the intention behind this policing is to kill pirates, well that's another story. I think pirating will always be a part of the game and I doubt it's the dev's intention to take that away. Giving the so called police factions a distinct advantage over pirates would be against that.

Maybe there could be some type of equal ground between Serco and Itani in terms of faction penalties. Factions shouldn't give a rat's ass about whether a Serco kills and Itani or vice versa. The two nations are having a war! Therefore under those circumstances the factions should have some understanding as to what's to be expected. Perhaps faction standings between these two nations should only offer you personal benefits instead.

Personal benefits could be reduced prices, ability to set home at a station after a certain level, bribes for items that can't normally be purchased anywhere else at your skill evel, etc. The Neutral Territories, on the other hand, will still contain the faction protection system for obvious reasons. But if someone is proclaimed a pirate in the Neutral Territories, their protection privelages will be locked as well.

In any case I'm totally against the idea of giving any "police guilds" a distinct advantage. Perhaps there could be NPC cops patrolling the area to aid in killing pirates. But any human-controlled police force has a lot of potential to be abusive.
Jun 09, 2004 Renegade ++RIP++ link
I dont see it as that... what I guess everybody already knew from me.

I see pirates as the scourge of the universe, therefore they can dock in very limited stations, they are hunted in all the civilised sectors for making them lose possible customers or traders... They can find refuge in the piratesectors... The only reason why somebody would like to be a pirate is since they dont want to be a goody two shoes, but the price for going agaisnt the standard is high, very high...

Killing somebody in civilised sectors will always be a crime and therefore punished by jailtime , fines or even locked out... The faction system has nothing to do with this part. It will only look at it if the person in question has the criminal status, maybe even the hated one but for the rest of the factionstandings it is considered to be a crime.

In outer sectors the law is a bit more flexible and naturally in the piratesectors there is no law except the one of the strongest.

The borders of civilisation will however need protection from pirates. They should be able to easilly fend of the occasional struggler. but an uprise of countless pirates no, for this they will need reinforcements from the surrounding sectors. People should be able to help on either side of these events. And these events will also shift you in standings based on your decissions.

Factionstandings will also shift you from red to green in that sector. So if you are green then you cant target another green from that sector. Admired for instance should be the example for green. Hated for red.

Not to mention that I have never seen a piece of information that serco and itani are at war. I have only seen that they had a war and that some strugglers still remain in the outer sectors. "and outer doesnt mean newbiesectors ..., and surely no massmurder of newbies". Diplomatics between 2 parties will go rough, but a peace is possible. Naturally a war will also be possible. But this is something that the STORY will drive us to, not the roldplaying from 1 or a couple individual(s). And serco or itani that then wont be part of this war can then choose to not join in, what will however drop them in their standings unless they havent got another job, like supplying the troops, or scoutingmissions ...

not to mention that pirates or a group of pirates couldnt likely have some fun to and join in in the war or pick on the survivors, not to mention that neutrals could fight also, but then as mercenaries. What will give them access to certain equipment that other neutrals cant access. Like for example serco rockets, or serco armor ...

Or that serco and itani will work together to clear out a piratehole that is bugging both nations for a while.

Dont stare yourselve blind on a war arolte, this is just a basic information about the past, not the present nor the future... It only shapes the characters of pilots and gives a reason after some standings or weapons or ships ...

Maybe the devs can even put in some nations that you can only join if you have certain standings. Like criminal in all sectors or in more then 60% of the civilised sectors(or less depending if it is feasable or not). This could then be called the piratenation. the oposite could be a policenation... but only if you are admired in that amount of sectors...

cheers

The Serco, once peaceable scientists who pursued their interests for the benefit of all mankind, now a formidable, warlike race, feared throughout the known galaxy

That doesn't seem like something that has diplomatic relations.
