DS Guild

Good points, Pavan, and that is why we would limit ourselves to a single sector or at least two of them for patrols.

I'm assuming that
1) the government already has a KoS (kill on sight list), which will be determined by a reputation system.
2) The DS Guild itself has a KoS that is determined by actions observed by a DS.

For instance, in Probable Scenario 1, the DS would take into account his prior experience with both Bob and Joe, and consider whether to intervene or let them fight.

Right now, as you've said, I'm somewhat half-nation-specific fighter, half-vigilante police force, with a big bias on the nation-specific fighter. This is because I can't be everywhere at once and know all the contexts, as well as inherently help the person on the nation that I was.

Basically, we'd patrol the mid-range sectors (not the most safe homworld ones, but not the most dangerous frontier ones). Anyone starts firing up another ship and they'll get pounced if they don't have clearance.

there are many problems, but I'm right now leaning toward the option of dispensing with the Guild's KoS, and just go with a government's. However, what would happen if a government had no prior experience with, say, "Kastin Thunderclaw," and he warps into the sector? Should the DS not attack until Kastin makes a move? I dunno....

To address your concern of the oligarchy: I will function in two capacities: Administrator (paying salaries, brokering deals, etc.) and Flight Squadron Leader. They do not overlap and there is no dichotomy. If questions about my using one capacity to abuse or undermine another, I'll consider relinquishing one for the other. I haven't thought it out yet, and as guilds aren't coming for a little while yet, see no need to do so.

With regards to this morning's (EST) blacklist addition (who shall remain unnamed), after being removed from the blacklist, said party attacked a bus unprovoked with a quadflare hornet.
Sep 20, 2003 SirCamps link
Current blacklist:

Kastin Thunderclaw. Known for repeatededly attacking ships of all make and origin without provocation, typekilling purposefully, and station nuking/exploiting.

Mercutio. Aider, abetter, and comforter of Kastin Thunderclaw. Has at least once prevented the destruction of K. Thunderclaw by interefering. Known to attack without provocation.

Pitchfork. Attacks repeatedly without provocation. Discharges weapons in random manner.

Note about the blacklist

For Defense Ships:

The first time the target attacks you or another person without provocation, give an initial warning ("Target ship, are you sure you want to do that?"). Five seconds later, if hostilities are continuing, give a final warning ("Last warning, target ship, cut it now or face destruction."). If target continues, engage and destroy. Then notify the player that if this happens three more times, they will be put on the DS blacklist. Once you have destroyed the target, do not engage again until the target becomes hostile.

Email me (cyberjohn85@mac.com) for the blacklist recommendation, as well as your log showing your actions and the target's. Do not consider the person on the blacklist until I have posted HERE with an updated blacklist.

Verd, unfortunately, DS's can't be on 24/7, and can only respond to attacks that we have first-hand knowledge of. Taking tips such as yours, while potentially helpful, are wide open to exploitation. The best we can do is "Defense Ship #X now online, cease hostilities." (Of course in 7 that is very much modified, and we try and look for griefing patterns and what not.)

OK. it was just that I thought you should know that the person who you put on and then subsequently took off decided to start attacking busses. I think DS7 might have been on at the time, not sure though.

If he can verify it, CrazyEwok will have a strike (one of the two) against him.

Update: The name of the guild will NOT be changed! I spoke with FM, and the intelligence that he was "pissed off" that I was using the DS name turned out to be questionable. I spoke with him about it and verified his opinion.

DS4, you might as well add my name to your blacklist now... I'm not planning on changing my "tactics" in the forseeable future...

PS: what colour is Thunderclaw? Perhaps we could come to a mutual agreement that we will both attack him, if in the same sector (he seems to be treading on my grounds)? in fact, is he new at all or a vet in disguise?

Ok... DSs better stop attacking the guy defending themselves when they get attack, and attack the guy that attacked first.

Blaster, I sit back and watch and see what the pattern is, then intervene. Or if I see someone warp in and get attacked I'll ask them if it was a consented attack.

Icarus: Kastin Thunderclaw is no newbie, and ranks up at the top with all the aces. And he's red.

Blacklist updates:

"...kl" - for repeated attacks without warning, multiple unprovoked attacks on several people, including, but not limited to, hach, Magus, and Crow.

Icarus - Put on at his own recommendation, but is known universally (ha-ha) as the de facto, el supremo mucho macho #1 pirate. Extremely hostile and can probably destroy any one pilot.

Could you put me on the list? For sitting still too much? Puuuuveeese?
How about for being annoying?
:]
Sep 21, 2003 SirCamps link
Blacklist updates:

"...kl" is OFF the list.

"`x`" is on the list for repeated unprovoked attacks and station nuking, which aside from killing combat ships, killed others unrelated to a fight.

"Dark Katarn" is on the list, for repeated unprovoked attacks, as well as venturing into sector 4 and killing players there. (Note: Katarn, his blue character, is not on the list, but will be if he commits similar actions on it.)

A note to EVERYONE: You may think it's fun or funny to attack a Defense Ship, but rest assured that the blacklist will NOT be wiped when the reset takes place, and that means you'll have one heck of a time trying to make money. I suggest you show some maturity and think ahead.
