The 175th Nation War.
"Please note that swarms and Lmines are banned from NWs due to lag problems, but that the latter are under review. Oh, and Biocom mines are too... and don't even think about bringing a pet Furie.
Please note that folk coming back to watch should be in an EC class ship, and stay 2000m from the action using zoom to watch. If you come back in anything else it makes it very difficult for the host to work out what is going on, and in extreme circumstances may lead to the disqualification of your team.
May I ask all players to stay close to their nation group and remain relatively stationary at the start, makes it easier for me to record names." -Host

I will adhere to the old native kos/hate requirement for players to join Gray Team unless it is clear that the community and not just four people wish it another way.
I encourage people to discuss the matter and not sit idly by.

Once more I, on behalf of IPA and the peaceloving community, staged an explode-in to protest against this mindless violence and mayhem. Make love, not war.

Yay Gray team! :)
Until the team problem is solved, it is unlikely that I will be participating in any future NWs. Its just too hard, you can't tell who's what, and if you were making NAPs with other teams it'd be even harder. I didn't know who was in grey, and Rudeboy completely stumped me for a few minutes.
People should be on one of four teams and readily identify which of those teams they are on when asked. This would help, I think.
Three people have now voiced disapproval of non native KOS pilots fighting for grey. I agree that we shouldn't make a decision based on the opinions of a small unrepresentative group.
Peace.

And gfs all. :D
oh and i have uit pos so could you note that. you make it sound as if i have native kos.

I think a good middle-ground would be that grey-team players must have either hate/KOS native standing, OR membership in an established pirate guild.
I would have to agree with zak, now that the FF boundaries have fallen. Having just anyone on the grey team would probably be too confusing, but if the grey team is made up solely of people with hated/kos native standing or a pirate tag, it shouldn't be too hard to keep them straight. I also agree with Pointsman that being clear before the start about who is on what team would help stem the confusion all around; perhaps the team leaders could make sure that anyone who is clustered around them is properly situated in the group and nobody who is supposed to be on their team is off somewhere they shouldn't be?
Maalik has UIT POS and is not a member of an established pirate guild. I'd like to be able to use him to fight for grey. How can we accommodate this?
Earn KOS/Hate with UIT, join an established pirate guild, or be turned into Gray; those are atm remedies.
Imo, if you can't meet the criteria for Gray team then join the team you do meet the criteria for.

Fuck that.
Any other ideas?

Maalik is the commander of ROUS (Rodents Of Unusual Size), a pirate guild that only pirates in Behemoths. He should therefore fight for grey in a Behemoth.
It might be a slight stretch, but I think we could say that it's fair for Maalik to fight for grey using any ship he wants by virtue of being in ROUS.
Last week, we had a member of ITAN on the grey team. That's just absurd.

Maybe 5 mins before the start of the NW the organizer can ask each member of the 4 teams to post on local chat what team they are playing for. That will let everyone one know who is on what team and give everyone a chance to update their target list.
With the current faction system IFF is a bit of a mess.
If you are using "Make Friends" for NW, you can set everyone red except your group members. However, if you have pilots on your side that are not in your group - you get a headache. Only option is to turn all players from your nation green but... then some players on a grey team will be shown as friends too.
Also, if you want to apply some tactics and go after one group first, "Make Friends" will not help.
New Faction System will probably fix this and we will get "grey/unaligned players".
Until then... we have to live with what we have.
I have no objection against players without native KOS participating on grey team since FF restrictions are lifted in grey.
After all this is just a game and good furball is a good furball. ;)

bojan, better way to use mf:
group to green rest to red, then go through all your not grouped team mates and add them to friendlies list.
Look at other teams, if anyone is somehow green add to hostiles list.
effect: everyone in your team is green, rest is not.
Also, disable 'set hostiles red'.
It's annoying to set up tho.

if you aren't smart enough to know who the enemy is then you deserve to die
A method I would quite happily settle for; an experienced coder (not me, I don't get the principles of this) could be to make an adaptation of Makefriends and Grouptarget. The group leaders talk and group the players into four teams, and then each group leader types into the makefriends box. If they clicked 'group change' it would make everyone in the group have the same friends/enemy settings. This way native KOS would not be needed.
An unfortunate drawback of this is that everyone in the group would need the same plugin, unless the devs made this a feature, which wouldn't be practical seeing as they're already working on other things.

Sounds plausible but too complicated Faustie.
Anyone who ever tried to play NW with a little bit of reason (not just rushing in, guns blazing) knows that good preparation (planning and applying tactics) is a key to success.
There is no plug-in in VO atm that could do what we need: separating different nation groups by unique color (not just green or red), marking 1st priority, 2nd priority targets by specific color code, etc, etc).
If someone could make a plug-in that would be able to do that.... we will have a nice solution.
Regarding pey comment...
I will suggest GS to instate some kind of a questionnaire for players that want to post in VO forums so we can eliminate feeble minded comments coming from players with an IQ of a beer can.
Nothing fancy, just a simple 3 question intelligence test.

I've always had a hard time making very good use of the radar displays regardless of what plugins I throw at them. I find targetless to be much more useful.
And ROUS has changed its policy to allow for any sort of piratical behavior on Sundays around 2000 GMT. I guess I can fight for grey with no objections from Surb after all. Yay.

You can participate all you want but if you're unwilling to follow the criteria then there's no reward for you
It's a simple rule in order to keep Nation War in its past spirit. I don't mind allowing ESTABLISHED pirate guild members joining gray team regardless of native standing.
Temporarily making your guild 'pirates' for only a certain amount of time attempting to bypass a community accepted rule isn't working on me.
If you want teams not based on any requirements, then host your own event.
