Oh, yeah, the backstory is pure bull, and we UIT left Terra II because the Serco were such Carebear/hippie-peace-loving-type pansies we were drowning in our own vomit.
Sheearight.
The Itani government went nuts and attacked the Serco, the Serco fought back and won. But THEN the Serco let it go to their heads and became violent psychopaths with egos the size of the Itani Ark.
Say what you want about the backstory as it stands but here are three facts you cannot deny:
1. The UIT had to leave Terra II because the Serco were killing them; the Serco reacted to their leaving with the relief one would feel if he witnessed all the roaches in his house hit the road. Then they topped it off by renaming the planet Serco Prime.
2. When the Serco stablished negotiations with the UIT because the Itani were simply KICKING THEIR BEHIND, they debased themselves and offered apologies and such to the UIT so they would help them.
3. It is for these same reasons that the Serco are allowing the UIT to reenact our exodus from the planet, since the government is still partly on a guilt-trip over it, and partly because were we to refuse our aid, the Itani could overpower them and take back their old systems. Though I think most Itani wouldn't want to do that, the Bigots of Akan certainly would try it.
Of course, the Serco have mellowed out somehow. But bloodthirsty and militaristic and bigots they certainly were, and many of them are still. So spare us your crocodile tears AND LIE IN THE BED YOU MADE, YOU CYBORG NINNIES!
That said, the average Serco is still higher in my book than any Bigot of Akan. Now those guys have NO excuse for what they do. They pay hard cash up front, though.

$$$$$ all about the money eh. Agreed we Akanese brought the wraith of the Serco on the general Itani populace. And we Akanee are highly militaristic, almost as much so as the Serco. But you have to admit, Itani ships look cooler.
Yes Monk... Itani ships do explode in a much prettier way.
Or maybe the Itani left due to knowledge about the Itani. The UIT where in space allot longer then the Serco and it stands to reason that they could have made contact with the Itani, then started an information comparing to force the other UIT into leaving so when the Itani did bomb civilian targets the UIT would not face and significant loss of life.
This would also explain why the UIT have always been so friendly to the Itani.

""three facts you cannot deny:""
you only have the word of the itani for any of these, and even they say its not a first hand account. therefore we dont KNOW any of those ARE FACTS. (except that the UIT are re-enacting thier little exodous, and even for that we dont know the reasons)
and no-one is crying, but if you really are so incapable of reading an account as biased as the one the itani are trying to pass off as fact without realizing its complete radioactive waste then i have some bottom land to sell you, very good soil, lots of moisture (you'll never have to water the grass) plenty of animal life. its a steal at only 1 million credits. of course its also on the bottom of an ocean, but thats just a minor detail.

Sheesh, I didn't think this post would garner such a response.

WHAT?!
So, the UIT leaving Terra II might be a lie?!
So where in Hell did we come from then, mushrooms? or did we simply popped out of roids with our ships and stations and all?
Man, whatever you're smoking, Spellcast, please stop.

Imho mushrooms are highly intelligent sentient species devoted to meditation. So.......no UITs didnt come from mushrooms.
UIT=Space Mushrooms...
I like that theory.
The UIT are just a conspiracy... meant to blind you from the truth.
They aren't really there...
What?

It maybe nice to note Jes that many Akanese are Itani monks....
jexkerome: i never disputed that the uit left terraII, only your presenting of the event. I'll break down the problems for you so your small mind can grasp it.
""The UIT had to leave Terra II because the Serco were killing them""
-this you have only the word of the itani for. in reality we regretfully allowed them to go thier own way. In truth most serco were content on our adopted homeworld, the UIT had a wanderlust we did not understand at the time and that did cause some tensions, but we hardly drove them off by killing them without cause. Our police were forced to raid a few villages that were harboring bandits near our borders around the time the UIT were preparing to leave, and the itani have somehow drawn the conclusion that we were waging a covert war on the UIT to drive them away from these facts.
"'the Serco reacted to their leaving with the relief one would feel if he witnessed all the roaches in his house hit the road.""
-how do you know how the serco reacted? once again itani speculation since no-one was there to witness it.
""Then they topped it off by renaming the planet Serco Prime""
-the only factual statement in your first point, our government needed to boost the morale of the remaining citizens who were somewhat dissapointed by the mass emegration of approximately 1/3 of the planets population.
""When the Serco stablished negotiations with the UIT because the Itani were simply KICKING THEIR BEHIND, they debased themselves and offered apologies and such to the UIT so they would help them.""
-i suppose requesting aid from a group we had some minor differences of opinion with could be considered debasing ourselves if you are a total idiot.
The UIT chose to assist us because we were a paying customer, both sides have benefited immensely from the open trade bewteen our nations. As a matter of fact the UIT economy would probably crash if the serco market was no longer availible, just as it would crash if the itani closed THIER borders to UIT traders.
Once again you re taking a skewed itani propoganda effort at face value. I pity your narrow mindedness.
Additionally the word you are looking for is Established. you forgot a letter.
Your third point is such random speculation and grasping at straws that its not even worth responding to in detail.
Meanwhile it is in recognition of how important the UIT feel about this re-enactment that it is being allowed to occur. It truly was a historic event in the founding of the Union, and we respect that. After all, its not every day that a nation can point to a single event and say 'thats where we took a gamble and decided to try to live completely in space'
Jestasis Bess: there is no such thing as a historical FACT, only a generally accepted version of certain events. Given that the victor writes the history books every "history" is in fact a culturally accepted version of events, often close to the actual events but never without some cultural shading.
In the case of the document in question your monks have managed to create a very well balanced piece of propoganda. By admitting to the events that occured before our nations were sundered by the war Akan started, they create a feeling of honesty and truthfulness that allows them to alter the facts of later events. In general the moderate tone throughout the document aids in this approach, but the fact remains that the document is biased towards the view the itani have of more recent events.
ALL of the "facts" presented about the serco and UIT nations are secondhand information, filtered through the itani viewpoint, and as such are interpreted data, not fact.
((completely out of character for a moment, the backstory IS a skewed viewpoint, as anything told from the point of view of one of the 3 nations should be. It DOES show the serco in a less than flattering light.))

Yea... I'm working on that.... Spell, check out securenet. I'll be addressing attitudes to the UIT there... at some point in the future... hopefully this weekend?

Now that is the kind of affirmation that will always put the Serco under a very gloomy light.

actually sun, that particular statment is completely true out of chracter, but thats a discussion for the off topic boards.

Spellcast, I thought you were RPing but now you're frightening me.
like i said sun, thats a topic for another thread. It's basically a matter of semantics tho. No history book has ever been published that didnt reflect the socio-political climate of when and where it was published. Perhaps it would have been more accurate to say that there is no such thing as a purely factual account of a historic event.
I'm not saying that history books are inaccurate or anything, just that ALL of them have some emotional shading. The shading gets more prevalant as you go farther and farther back in time. For example most histories of what happened within the last 100 years are more or less accurate, but if you were to look at a french history of WW1 and compare it to an american history of the same time frame, you would find small differences based on the point of view. a german history would be slightly different than either of those two, and a chinese history probably would barely even mention WW1 because of how little impact it had there.
Edit dammit i wandered into that topic thats for another thread.

I cannot say I agree with you. I am a Serco and a warrior, with all my heart. But nothing is more atrocious in my book than senseless bloodshed. People knowing me (from all Nations) will probably attest to that. And I'm not the only one.
I don't believe that these facts (and facts they are, rest assured) are congruent with your statement. I ask you to revise your statement.

I agree with JestatisBess that I do not think the backstory is intentionally skewed. However, even if it is not in the intention to leave out or add in certain facts, sometimes this happens anyway. Although not attempting to skew the history to the Itani point of view, it may happen anyways just because it is just that: an Itani point of view. Sometimes, one fact can be agreed upon by two nations but different points of view on it result in different re-tellings of the event.
ie) Fact-Serco captured Itani pilots in an unnarmed craft. They responded by sending fighters into Itani space.
Itani point of view-The captured pilots were observers
Serco point of view-The captured pilots were spies.
That's just one example. There's tons of spots where issues like this could take place in the backstory.
Oh, this was all OOC btw =)
