1. I like the name beemer :)
2. don't play with the thrust. this is the 1st heavey ship that acually feels heavey all loaded up and it does turn like a tanker. if you want to make a chage let it have 1 port in the back. fully loaded it turns way to slow to use anthing but missles or mines ti really defend itself. its perfect the way it is. but maybe the mk 2 could have a lttle less cargo and a higher top speed
3. about making millions. everyone whos played this game for mare then a week should now that money is real easy to make, the bemeer might make it a little easier, but its still easy ti make a million in a couple of hours.
4. please oh please give it one small port, i would really love to mine in this thing. but i would kinda like to know what i'm mining.
he who runs from a fight , lives to fight another day :)

One complaint: Half the time leaving a dock the ship hits the top of the dock... Irritating.

This might organize pirates in a way that they had no reason to be before. Previous to the behemoth, a pirate on his own could kill anything without needing help. Now no matter how good he is he might not be able to take one down, so natural selection among pirates is going to favor those that work in teams.
It may mean a bit of a shake up in the way things are right now. Individual skill has been paramount for so long that even big fights quickly turn into a bunch of 1v1s. It's pretty rare that you actually see pilots truly working as a team - yeah, you get two people attacking one target, but there's very little awareness of the other pilot. I'm not saying that the best 1v1ers can't adapt, just that it's going to be an interesting transition if teamplay, or I guess "wings" of pilots actually become more common in game. Two pilots working well as a team will be more deadly than any single pilot, and since the moth is tough to kill 1v1, I can see pirates starting to work together.

What? You actually care about your paint job?

that would be very cool and would make it more practical for a mining ship

Impression(s): a killer trade and co-mining ship. Its 190 speed ceiling and horrific rotational capability balance the ships survivability, IMHO.
Regarding the moth's acceleration capability, any self-propelled/contained cargo ship should have decent straight-line thrust power to move out into jump territory. After all, TPG engineers are skilled cargo ship builders and know how to move mass. It will also have decent small-maneuver capability at low speeds when docking, too. What a cargo ship shouldn't have is super rotational ability at any speed -- and the moth does not.
I actually think that the basic moth should not have a small port for a mining scanner in order to nudge folks into more group mining. Plus, a solo player can always visually recognize asteroids, test mine them OR scout a sector in a light ship pre-mining venture. Perhaps a MKII or MKIII version would have the small port... and require a serious jump in level requirements to, say, - / - / - / 12 / 8 /.

Echoing LeadFist's and other's comments:
Giving the moth a small port (or some form of mineral scanning) would not be beneficial to VO. The moth's niche is carrying cargo, but not cargo it mined all by itself. Thats how it should stay. If not then the other ships (centaur, maud) are going to become (even) less useful.

you know, I really think a good solution to making the darn light ships the only combat options would be to add ships and weapons with XL ports. We need high-damage weapons that only very large ships can carry. (NOT THE PROM!!) :P Small ships should have to be weary of getting hit by a large cannon or chased down by a 180 degree turret. at this point, light ships have nothing to fear from anything but other light ships... that sucks... combat is all centurions and proms nowadays... anything else is a victim
This is the first new ship I have seen in ages, and I like it, I think the levels are a little bit low for it, I was not expecting to be able to get one at /x/x/x/9/9
As for adding a small port/mining laser with scanner, maybe make a mining variant, with 1 s 1 l, but come on, is mining the be all and end all? No, its something people do when bored, and the centuar is teh ship to get the ore if you dont know a good roid/sector, teh beh is a trade ship, not a mining ship, it said as much in the news, why the mining cry?
[Edit] I mean 2s 1l, sorry =p

The ship is big enough to support 1 small and 2 large ports. I say give it the 1 small and let it keep the 2 large ports, if only as a mining variant. Stop thinking of this ship as a bloated Marauder. It isn't. I doesn't need to be outfitted as one.
along with a small port, let's throw on a few thousand more armor and double the thrust...
you can't make this moth even more uber than it already is. It will already take the place of trade centaurs, mauds, and atlases (unless you don't have the licenses for it yet). Thowing on another small port would make it the ultimate ship, and it would be the only trade ship ever seen. Plus, people won't use the small port just for mining. A small port could mean gems and duel gatling, etc. etc. It just makes the ship too good.

Yeah, and let's change the /explode command to take an additional argument: The player to explode.
Nah. Leave the moth.
I haven't got it yet myself, and I think level 8 trade is high enough. Try whiping your characters every once in a while to see what it's like to get back on top theese days.
Botting for centuries... gah.
Anyway, I digress...
I agree that the Moth seems to obsolete the Marauder, but I trust the devs have a plan.

The Marauder and the Behemoth are not totally comparable. The first is a wonderful multi-purpose ship, the other is a pure trading ship.
And imho the Moth does not deserve a third S port. Or we can /explode centaurs for scrapyard missions. The Moth can still be used for mining, if you have good visual memory.

As I mentioned somewhere, the Moth is a great mining ship, if you know where your rocks are. I have most of the good rocks mapped out, so I fly to them and start mining 120c of whatever it is. How do you know you've got the right rock? Check your cargo. If you wanted heliocine and are getting silicates, you have the wrong rock. I have 4 very pure Heliocine rocks mapped. I flew the beheouth up to it, parked and started mining. Came back 15 minutes later to a 120c Full hold of heliocine. Very good stuff.

The Moth is a great mining ship when group mining. Last night we had three Behemoths and a Centaur group mining. The Centaur would do the scanning of roid, the Behemoths would just mine. It worked out fairly well.
As for the ship in general, I agree it's levels need to be a bit higher for the basic variation.

I like it - the overall balance seems good to me, and I agree with those who say that there should NOT be a small port. This vessel should be escorted when necessary, and having a small port lets a single player go off by themselves and mine mine mine, which does not help the game.
In fact, tonight (If I can get online) I'll use it to mine heliocene or something just as pricey and get some of my guildmates to escort me to corvus to sell it. It will purposely encourage teamwork / blockade running / team pirating / etc.
Just like what Solra did with his samoflange runs (which I missed), but player-oriented only.
Should be fun.

add 1 equipment port
Its overpowered. When I'm in a behemoth I have no fear of dying even when moving through hostile areas. If theres an enemy on the other side of the portal I just slam on the thrust and fire a salvo of infernal missles. If they somehow catch up to me, they often are running a ship that doesn't have infinite boost. Even when they do catch up to me, I've got 42000 pts of armor. I like trading, but I feel it should have more risk then this. I'd be willing to have the booster thrust reduced, or perhaps limit the max speed to 175 or 170. While its turning radius is nice and slow, it still gets the heck out of hell really quick. Far too quick imho for such a large ship.
I'd wait a bit longer before calling the moth "unkillable"...
Once the frigate get's put back in, I doubt avalons will be far behind...
I would NOT want to try taking a nuke up my tailpipe if I was flying a fully loaded Behemoth.. 8^0

A couple of pirates working together can make quick work of a behemoth if their working as a good team. This ship encourages team work on a few different fronts, which is always a good thing in my opinion.
