Hello everyone, I've got a question.
I'm UIT. Last night I took a noob friend who is Itani out for some botting in a Itani monitored sector. I would soften the botts up for him and used the cool repair module to keep him in the fight. We were having a blast until I accidently slagged him in the heat of the moment. My Itani standing went from +200 to -800 and I seem to be KOS in blue space due to one single error.
2 questions for those who seem to have been born at the same time the universe was.
1. Would /duel have been useful to prevent this ?
2. How can I regain positive standing with Blue if they won't leave me alone in their systems ?
Thanks
LeMort

2. Do you have the Fast Charge Battery? 4/0/0/4/0 I think. That and a ship with 50 drain will allow you to turbo away from the strike force. Then warp to a few empty sectors, then bot in Itani space.
I dont think /duel would have helped, since attacking another ship aborts the ongoing duel.
Your only option at this point is to break your neck botting. It's the fastest way to regain faction standing. Easy-going bots like Kannik collectors can be downed in a couple well-placed shots.
I recently changed my -780 serco faction standing into a +720 standing. I took about about 2100 bots in roughly 6 hours.
It's long. It's thedious. And you learn not to do this too often.
BTW, kill-on-sight will dissapear at -599.
As for the Fast-Charge battery, if you're level 3 and are not hated in Corvus, they'll gladly sell one to you.
Good luck.

Regarding botting in Itani space: most collectors are in Monitored sectors, so you have to look around to find an unmonitored sector. I know there's at least one unmonitored sector in Eo that has Denteks and/or Oruns (next to a planet, IIRC).
Thanks everyone for the information and advice. 2100 bots seems like a painful experience. I'm close to level 3 but not there yet and Corvus seems to hate me as well, so that's out.
At least now I know there IS a way to regain status.
I'm stuck for now I guess. I must say this seems like extreem punishment for one accidental mistake. But I guess the universe is a harsh place, eh ?

Thats the only way, but you dont have to kill 2100 bots (thats kind of silly) you should get docking rights back after <> 800 bots from -1000 so <> 400 bots from -800 to -599, at which point, you can again dock with Itani stations (and not get shot at) you can then do trade missions to increase your standing (much faster than botting).
*Some advice, go botting tycorp assaults in deneb, get there from serco space, take an advanced combat mission, your going to have to level anyways, you will be combat 5 in no time =D*
IIRC there was some discussion about making it possible to *bribe* the station guards to let you dock *althought you may need to set up a bind/be a fast typer* with <> 500k to be able to dock, the sooner the better, imagine accidently/or someone else putting you KOS with a sub-faction that owns no botting space....
[Edit]
Maybe a quick fix is to make the 10 surrounding sectors of any station a *botting* sector claimed by the station (they would want to monitor the sectors, even if they dont disclose on the universe map, ie grey, because its close to them)
The only problem then is making sure there is at least one square for each sub-faction, has bots. This way I would have to work back a sub-faction, and take on differing bots, just my 2c, prolly belongs in suggestions, but heres a good place =p

I think this is what guides are for. I do not doubt they would be sympathetic to your situation and give you some special assistance.
To guides: don't judge a situation unless it's a repeat offender type of thing (not that you don't know this already).

I don't know anything about guides.
Actually, this level of punishment is only the case in -monitored- sectors.
If you had been careful to bot with your friend in an unmonitored sector (they are marked on the map you know) you wouldn't get that level of suffering.
There is also the fact that the members of the same group don't get hit with faction penalties, so grouping up would have saved you here.

Thanks Spider, that's the answer I was hoping was out there so I can avoid this in the future.
Btw.. You only need to bot up to -599, then you can snap off and do some traderuns. On the other hand, This is an excellent time to reach for that level 8 combat, right? There is some very nice botting in Itani space. :)
And just ask a serco ingame about how to get to itani bottinggrounds without being attacked by strikeforces. Most know it :)
Gaining standing is currently very easy with bulk procure missions, giving you a ridiculous amount of faction gain for the relative small amount of work involved.

spider, im however sure that a guide can be so friendly as fix the standing. Especially since it was an error and not at all harmfull intent.
At least if I would have been a guide, I would have fixed it. No need in punishing people for helping newbies, even if it was an error on their part.
cheers

I must say, Jakob & everyone else who's posted here, this is probably the best thread on standing penalties I've seen. Kudos to you all.
Err... wylfing, rene, who's your dealer?
Mine won't sell me anything that strong.
Fixing standings is the ONLY place the guides have stepped over the line in the past, and the ONLY reason I have for lowering my respect for the entire guidedom a couple of notches. By fixing the standings of people the guides have essentially eliminated consequence, and consequence is really the only thing that keeps any game from becoming a free-for-all-newbie-killing-and-other-fun-stupid-things.
Seriously, the fixing of standings is the single worst thing the guides have ever done. If one of them started /killing everyone online, THAT wouldn't be as bad.

Now, i kind of agree with genka for once, except for sub-factions that cannot be fixed, I still cant wait for a bribe option, 500k can be a lot to a pirate...
I have had my UIT standing raised and killed again so many times I can say UIT is a YoYo if nothing else =D

It's nice that grouping with the other player can protect your faction standing from accidental friendly fire incidents, but it's a shame that you can't take a Trade Guild mission as a group -- so if you're into sharing trade missions, you've still got to be careful.
I authorize guides to fix standings in certain special cases because I feel the faction system is somewhat broken. Not super broken, but in need of improvement. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. In this particular case, the faction system acted as intended, but there should be a "/forgive" type command, or some such, to allow an attacked player to negate the standing incurred by an accidental attack against them.
Hmmmm, Genka appears to strongly favor consequences....
Bah. I put more thought into that single post than a full week of prior posts, and here you come, with your 'logic' and 'sense' and break all my arguments down. Damn you John Bergman! Damn you!
Edit: Shuks FM, I'm not really a bad person. I just look like one.

Well I'm certainly not asking for any special favors. Even though an accident, I did the deed. It would have gone differently if I knew what I learned from the helpful people who have replied here. I suppose it's a hard thing to decide how much of the inner workings of the universe to reveal and how much to leave for the players to discover themselves.
I'm thinking I'm not going to take action to fix this situation right now. On the bright side it has forced/allowed me to discover that Serco space can be very profitable and Grey space has some advantages too. ;-) I doubt I'd have gone wandering in there otherwise.
Oh, and I think the /forgive idea is most excellent. BF 1942 eventually implemented a similar feature. Let the victim decide if it was intentional or not.
